Daily Crypto Review, Apr 14 – Blockchain Immunity Passport for COVID-19?

The cryptocurrency market recovered from the price drop it experienced during the weekend and made its move towards the upside. Bitcoin is currently trading for $6,888, which represents an increase of 3.02% on the day. Meanwhile, Ethereum gained 3.77% on the day, while XRP gained 2.58%.

MaidSafeCoin took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 25.25%. Digibyte lost 8.89% on the day, making it the most prominent daily loser.

Bitcoin’s dominance increased slightly when compared to yesterday’s value. Its value is now 64.61%, which represents a 0.44% difference to the upside.

The cryptocurrency market capitalization increased slightly over the past 24 hours. Its current value is $196.65 billion. This value represents an increase of $4.11 billion when compared to the value it had yesterday.

What happened in the past 24 hours

The COVID-19 Credentials Initiative (also known as CCI) is working on a digital certificate that will enable users to show proof that they have recovered from the COVID-19 virus. The certificate will work by using the W3C verifiable credentials standard. The certificate will show whether a person has antibodies for coronavirus or if it got a vaccine.

This form of certificate would act as an immunity passport, which could help stop the spreading of COVID-19 as well as helping individuals return to their lives prior to the pandemics.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin started recovering from the fall below some of its key support levels and made an attempt to reach its previous levels. The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has been moving up steadily over the past 24 hours, making its way above $6,850 and establishing its price there. Low volume might indicate that a move will end soon unless some form of new money comes to the market.

Bitcoin’s volume was descending in the past 24 hours, while its RSI level went to a value of 50.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $7,085                                           1: $6,850

2: $7,420                                           2: $6,640

3: $7,750                                            3: $5,960

Ethereum

Ethereum established its position above $147.5  and started moving above the key level over the past 24 hours. The second-largest cryptocurrency is currently trading around the price of $158, with volume a bit low to progress further. However, the support level of $147.5 will hold (at least in the short-term) as there is no bear pressure at the moment.

Ethereum’s volume is on low levels, preventing any unstable movement. Its RSI level is currently at 48.

3: $178.6                                             3: $128

Ripple

XRP increased as well over the past 24 hours but had a pretty rough day. If we take a look at the chart, we can see its price increasing and trying to follow the ascending trend line. However, the uptick was stopped by the $0.19 key resistance level. As the price stopped rising, XRP started making moves towards the downside. There is a possibility that XRP might lose today’s gains very soon.

XRP’s volume decreased when compared to yesterday, while its RSI level is at 44.

What Determines The Price Of One Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is the most dominant cryptocurrency out of the thousands that exist today. It is the largest in market cap, and it pretty much influences investor sentiment about the rest of the cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin was created by a mysterious developer with the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

Bitcoin transactions i.e., buying, transferring, spending of bitcoins, are recorded on a public blockchain. Its transactions are pseudonymous, that is, a user’s personal credentials are not publicly displayed, but their public address/key is. This public address can be used to trace the owner of a transaction if need be.

Unlike conventional currency, Bitcoin is not issued by a central bank or rallied by the state. As such, monetary policies, interest rates, inflation, and so on do not apply to Bitcoin.

Curious Bitcoin investors may thus be gnawed by this question:

What is it that determines the price of Bitcoin?

Several factors determine its valuation, and we’ll look at each below:

Supply and Demand

Before we look at the supply and demand of Bitcoin, we need to look at what partially determines the supply and demand of fiat currency. Actions like adjusting the discount rate, Lowering or raising the reserve ratio, and so on can impact a country’s currency exchange rate.

Now the supply of Bitcoin is determined by other factors. To begin with, new bitcoins are generated at a fixed rate through a process known as mining. Mining involves verifying and confirming blocks of transactions and adding those transactions on the blockchain. The Bitcoin protocol is designed in a manner that the coins released into circulation will reduce over time. For instance, coins were generated at a rate of 6.9% in 2016, and this reduced to 4.4% in 2017 and to 4.0% in 2018. As fewer coins are released, demand increases. Demand being higher than supply will result in the price going up.

Secondly, the supply of Bitcoin may be determined by the number of coins the system is programmed to allow. Bitcoin’s supply is capped at 21 million. When this number of coins has been generated, mining will no longer create new coins. Already, Bitcoin’s supply has reached 18.1 million – this represents 86.2% of the crypto’s supply at that particular time.

Once we reach 21 million coins, the price of Bitcoin will depend on several factors. For instance, will it be a practical currency, i.e., usable in day-to-day transactions? Will it be legally recognized? Will it be in demand – which will be determined by the demand for cryptocurrencies in general? The controlled generation of bitcoins will no longer have an impact on its price.

Competition

Bitcoin may be the most important and recognized cryptocurrency, but there are thousands more vying for the world’s attention. As of March 2020, Bitcoin is still leading the pack in terms of market capitalization – but other cryptocurrencies are giving it a run for its money. Some of them aim to outdo Bitcoin in one functionality or another – either by solving a problem that bitcoin cannot solve, or improving a certain functionality, or being more innovative.

Cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, EOS, Litecoin, Ripple, Tether, and Binance coin are some of its closest competitors. Besides, there are few barriers to entry into the crypto space, and new cryptocurrencies are constantly making the news. However, Bitcoin still maintains the highest visibility for any cryptocurrency. This gives it a certain clout and an edge over the competition.

Cost of Production

Bitcoin is a virtual currency, but its production is not very different from other products that incur a real-life cost. Bitcoin is famous for consuming electricity, the equivalent of entire countries. Generation of new coins – or ‘mining’ involves miners solving complicated math problems – with the first miner to solve the puzzle being rewarded with bitcoins and a fraction of transaction fees.

But Bitcoin, unlike other produced products, has an algorithm that allows only one block to be found every ten minutes. This means that the more miners in the network, the more difficult it is to find the answer to the puzzle. This means more energy is consumed in the process.

It also means the more producers (miners) that join in the competition, the more the problem is difficult – and thus more expensive – to solve. Research has demonstrated that Bitcoin’s price is indeed tied to its cost of production.

Availability on Crypto Exchanges

Very much like how equity investors trade stocks and bonds over stock exchanges, crypto investors also trade crypto-currencies over cryptocurrency exchanges like Coinbase Bitfinex, Binance, Poloniex, Coinmama, Bitpanda, and so on. Also, just like the traditional exchanges, Crypto exchanges allow investors to trade crypto in pairs, e.g., Bitcoin/Ether (BTC/ETH).

The more popular an exchange is, the more traders and investors it draws. This increases market liquidity for currencies listed on the exchange, increasing their demand. Also, since these exchanges operate in jurisdictions where they are regulated, the presence of, let’s say, Bitcoin, implies regulatory compliance, rendering Bitcoin a legitimate currency in the eyes of the public and potential investors. This matters because the legal standing of cryptocurrencies is currently sort of in a gray area.

Regulation and Legal Matters

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have become so popular that regulators are not sure how to classify them. For example, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) classifies the digital assets as Securities, while the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) classifies them as commodities. This confusion over what kind of assets cryptocurrencies are, as well as the tumble over which regulator gets to set the rules, creates uncertainty that impacts the value of cryptocurrencies.

Also, the finance market is now witnessing the introduction of new financial products – such as exchange-traded funds futures and other derivatives that use Bitcoin as the underlying asset.

This impacts the price of Bitcoin. First, it expands bitcoin’s access to investors who could not afford to buy it. This increases Bitcoin’s demand. Secondly, it can mitigate the volatility of Bitcoin, since institutional Bitcoin derivatives’ investors can use their massive resources and market influence to bet on which direction Bitcoin’s price will move.

Governance Stability (or lack of) and Forking

Bitcoin is a decentralized and autonomous network – meaning it’s not governed by any single entity. As such, it relies on network participants to process transactions and protect the network. Any updates to the Bitcoin protocol are done only after consensus is reached, meaning issues take longer to resolve as opposed to a centralized system where decisions are made by those at the top and implemented as quickly as possible. This is frustrating for the community and might cause many people to invest in other cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin’s scalability issue is another problem. Any blockchain’s volume of transactions depends on the size of the block, and Bitcoin’s current 1MB block size severely limits the number of transactions that can be processed in one second. This wasn’t an issue before cryptocurrencies became hugely popular, but the slow transactions on Bitcoin might push people towards cryptocurrencies with a faster transaction time.

Bitcoin enthusiasts have been at loggerheads over how to best increase the speed of transactions. This can be achieved via one of two types of software updates – which are called forks. Soft forks constitute rules or updates that do not permanently split the blockchain and result in a new cryptocurrency. Hard forks constitute a permanent split of the blockchain and, with it, the birth of a new cryptocurrency. The Bitcoin blockchain has previously undergone hard forks that resulted in Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold cryptocurrencies.

Hard forks do not just split the blockchain; they also split the community. The Bitcoin Cash fork was particularly acrimonious. When events like these happen, they splinter a cryptocurrency’s user base, which is also the investor base. This can reduce demand for that cryptocurrency, lowering its price. It can also negatively affect investor sentiment, which has the same effect.

Conclusion

Now that you know how the Bitcoin price comes to be, you’re better placed to know how certain events, either internal or external, to Bitcoin, affects its price. And while no one can accurately predict the exact price of the currency, at least you can foresee potential movements in its price long before it happens. This can help you know better decide if to buy or sell.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin fell under $7,000 again, after failing to reach above $7,420 many times. With bulls showing such sign of weakness, bears took over and pushed the price down a few times until the $7,000 level was broken. Bitcoin has now fell under the $6,850 support as well, but found its stability at the $6,640 key level. Traders should most definitely look at the volume when trading, as that may be the best indicator of when the move is coming at the moment.

Bitcoin’s volume is rose over the weekend but is pretty low at the moment. Its RSI level is currently at 39.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $6,850                                           1: $6,640

3: $7,420                                            3: $5,000

Ethereum

Ethereum’s chart looks more or less the same as Bitcoin’s. Once the bulls couldn’t handle the resistance levels, bears took over and brought Ether’s price down. The wall of $158 fell, and ETH had do find another support level, which it did. The $147.5 line responded well to the pressure, and Ethereum is consolidating above it.

Ethereum’s volume increased slightly over the weekend while it is back to normal at the moment. The RSI level is currently at 40.

Ripple

XRP was following the ascending trend line until the drop of April 10. The third-largest cryptocurrency crashed and fell under this line and then retesting it only to fail to break it to the upside. Over the weekend, this like got tested once again as XRP pushed to $0.1965. However, the resistance level held up, and XRP bears responded by bringing the price down to $0.183.

XRP’s volume increased greatly during the most recent drop, while its RSI level is at 39.

Myths about Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies

If there’s one space that’s rife with confusion, myths, untruths, and rumors, it’s the blockchain and crypto space. That’s because both technologies are still relatively young, and cryptocurrencies, in particular, confounds many with their explosive success and tenacity when many thought they were passing smoke.

Blockchain, on its part, has been touted as the panacea of many ills faced by the finance industry and businesses. Also, you’ll rarely hear its weaknesses mentioned, just the pros.

What are the facts, and what is fiction? Whether you’re an investor, an aspiring investor, or just watching from the sidelines, it’s important that you have a clear and realistic view of these technologies.

This piece debunks the most common myths about blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

1. Bitcoin Is Blockchain

Bitcoin is the first and most popular blockchain application. As such, many people confuse it with Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency – the first-ever, introduced in 2009. It facilitates transactions in a peer-to-peer and decentralized environment. Transactions on the Bitcoin network do not need approval or supervision by a third party. Blockchain, on the other hand, is a distributed ledger that is stored in a cluster of computers. Blockchain records are secured by the use of cryptography.

2. Blockchain’s Only Application Is Cryptocurrency

It’s true that cryptocurrencies are the widest application of blockchain technology.  It’s also true that the two go together very well. But cryptocurrency is not the only use case for blockchain. Lots more industries can use blockchain and take advantage of its security, transparency, immutability, and so on.

3. Crypto Transactions Are Anonymous

Lots of crypto users are under the impression that crypto transactions are anonymous.  In actual sense, transactions on public blockchains such as Bitcoin are recorded on the blockchain and can be traced to the owner. While your personally identifying credentials will not be published on the blockchain, your public address will.  Also, crypto exchanges are mandated by governments to identify users on their platform.

4. Blockchain Will Overhaul How Business Transactions Are Done

Blockchain is often touted as the technology that will change how businesses conduct, record, and manage transactions. But in some instances, blockchain might be more process-intensive, difficult to scale, and take more confirmation time than current methods. Blockchain is only necessary if there is a need for ultra-secure verification and immutability of records.

5. Cryptocurrencies are Volatile, So Blockchain Cannot Be Reliable

Since many people still get cryptocurrency and blockchain mixed up, there is a misconception that with cryptocurrencies being so volatile, blockchain must not be credible. But the behavior of cryptocurrencies has nothing to do with blockchain, their underlying technology.

6. Cryptocurrencies Are Best For Illegal Activity

Cryptocurrencies have two special features, decentralization and privacy. These are very attractive features for criminals.  But they are also attractive features for law-abiding people who wish to invest in them, and citizens of politically or economically unstable countries. If your country’s economy has the possibility of destabilizing or your assets are at the risk of being frozen by a tyrannical government, cryptocurrencies might come as a very handy choice.

7. Blockchain Technology Can Be the Backbone of a Global Economy

No entity, either private or public, owns or regulates the blockchain. For this reason, Bitcoin proponents hope private blockchains can support cryptocurrencies for varied use across sectors. The reality is that current blockchains are still too small to support a global scale of financial operations.

8. Digital Tokens Are Digital Coins

Many people still use these terms interchangeably.  But the two are fundamentally different concepts. Digital coins have only one utility. They also act as a store of value, much like fiat, and are also used to access the services of a blockchain. Examples are Bitcoin and Ether for the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains, respectively.

Tokens, for their part, store complex kinds of value such as property, stock, art, utility, and so on. In other words, they represent ownership of real-life assets. Tokens are hosted by a blockchain such as Ethereum and are issued via an Initial Coin Offering (ICO).

9. There Is Only One Type of Blockchain

Many non-blockchain insiders think that there is only one type of blockchain.  In truth, there are three types of blockchain:

Public blockchains: these are open-source blockchains on which anyone anywhere can participate.  Anyone can read, write, audit, or review anything on the blockchain.

Private blockchains:  these blockchains are only accessible to participants who have been authorized to do so. Also, only authorized people can record transactions.

Consortium blockchains: These are blockchains that are governed by a group of companies – usually in the same industry – who come together to share insights and make decisions that benefit them and industry.

10. Blockchain Records Are Immune to Hacking or Alteration

One of blockchain’s main selling points is its immutability of records and its unimpeachable security. Many people often think this means blockchains are utterly insecure from attacks. But no system can be 100% tamper-proof or secure. In the case of blockchain, the more distributed it is, the most secure it is considered to be. This is because its distribution eliminates a single point of failure in the sense that even if one node fails, other nodes will continue running the network.

Also, blockchains are vulnerable to bugs in the code, loopholes in smart contracts, and other ways through which bad actors can exploit them.

11. Blockchain Technology Is Only Applicable In Finance

This misconception arises from the fact that blockchain was first applied to cryptocurrencies – which are in the finance sphere and which have impacted it directly. However, blockchain has numerous other applications.  It can be used in real estate, supply chain, healthcare, identity, music, and many other areas.

12. Blockchain Is Trustless

One of the most bandied-about words in the blockchain space is ‘trustless.’  The truth is that even blockchain requires a degree of trust. Blockchain does not completely eliminate the need for trust; it only reduces it. A certain degree of trust is placed on the underlying cryptography of public blockchains, as it is placed in the validators of permissioned ones. Blockchain, at best, is ‘trust-minimizing.’

13. Blockchain Is a ‘Truth Machine’

Blockchain is very good for transferring data that is native to the respective blockchain.  However, for non-native data, “garbage in garbage out” still applies to blockchain. This is because blockchain cannot determine whether data from external sources is accurate or not. If such data is inaccurate, blockchain will just treat it as it would any other input, after certain conditions are met.

14. Cryptocurrencies Are A Quick Route to Riches

There is a persistent idea that cryptocurrencies can make you rich overnight. Indeed, early crypto investors made huge gains in the most the bullish year 2017. But we’re yet to see another bullish year such as 2017, and with the hard-to-predict nature of cryptocurrencies, it’s hard to know when another crypto boom will occur.

Cryptocurrencies are certainly thrilling to invest in, but they are not a one-way ticket to riches and glory. As with any investment, it’s prudent you do your research before investing, as well as diversify your investment portfolio across different assets to spread risk.

15. Cryptocurrencies Do Not Have Value

Several factors have contributed to the notion that cryptocurrencies do not have any intrinsic value or that they are a fad that will go away.  For one, the asset class has proven difficult to classify. Many countries are still at a loss on how to classify them for tax purposes. On their part, investors are not sure how to treat them in regard to taxation or even for everyday use.

In actuality, cryptocurrencies only become bigger, and their very own infrastructure, e.g., worldwide distribution, sets them up for the long haul. And just like any other currencies, cryptocurrencies can be used as a medium of exchange, and they also possess the value that is attributed to them by users.

16. Cryptocurrencies Are Not Secure

As cryptocurrencies have become more popular, they have become targets of scammers, hackers, and thieves. The majority of insecurity incidents happened at cryptocurrency exchanges, while in other cases, malicious actors exploited vulnerabilities in wallets and other aspects. For these reasons, potential investors might worry about investing in this type of asset.

But they should also know that yes, cryptocurrencies are possible targets for theft and fraud, but they can also safeguard their crypto holdings by exercising caution. Some cautious behavior includes storing large amounts of crypto holdings in cold wallets, not accessing their online wallets via public Wi-Fi, enabling two-factor authentication, and always storing their crypto funds in safe exchanges.

17. Cryptocurrencies Are a Scam

There is the notion in some quarters that cryptocurrencies are a scam. Of course, some greedy elements have set out to take advantage of people’s interest in cryptocurrency by offering fake ICOs, creating Ponzi schemes, creating fake exchanges and wallets, and so on.

Very much like how fraud exists in the traditional finance landscape, it also does in the digital currency world. Wise investors, however, do not rush in to every investment opportunity blindly. Instead, they take their time to research every potential investment opportunity, carry out due diligence on any crypto exchange or wallet, and so on.

Final Thoughts

Either people have a starry-eyed view of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, or they think very lowly of them based on rumors. The truth is more in between. There is no perfect technology, and while blockchain and crypto are certainly revolutionary, they have their limitations. In the same measure, they are not overhyped technologies that are only good for criminals, and they are not going to make you rich overnight. Always DYOR (do your own research) with regards to everything blockchain and crypto.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin has spent the day consolidating and dropping in price slightly. However, things do not look well as Bitcoin is taking a retest of the lows with slightly increased volume. While it is currently trying to breach $7,000 and trade under it, nothing is settled yet.

Bitcoin’s volume is slowly increasing, while its RSI is currently at the value of 40.

Ethereum

Ethereum spent the past 24 hours trying to establish a price above the $168 support level. However, the latest push down broke the level, and ETH went below $168. It looks like the second-largest crypto will retest at least the $158 level, if not more.

Ethereum’s volume skyrocketed during the price drop, while its RSI level is at 46.

Ripple

XRP spent the past couple of days fighting to stay above $0.2. However, the tight range between $0.2 and $0.205 was not enough for XRP, so the price had to move somewhere. A slight increase in bearish presence brought the price down to rested the $0.19 levels and solidified XRP’s position below $0.2. The level seems to be holding up nicely so far, which means that $0.19 will not fall unless the volume increases dramatically.

XRP’s RSI level has been dropping for the past couple of days, now being at 45.

BTC/USD – Trading Costs Involved While Trading This Crypto-Fiat Pair

Introduction

Apart from currencies pairs, exchanges allow trading of cryptocurrencies as well. Cryptocurrencies can be bought and sold in the exchange market through Forex brokers. Trading cryptocurrencies can be closely related to Forex trading but not stock trading. This is because cryptos are traded as pairs and not individually. In this series, we will be analyzing the trading costs involved while trading cryptocurrencies that are paired with fiat currencies (Ex: USD).

BTC/USD is a cryptocurrency pair where BTC stands for Bitcoin, and USD stands for US Dollar. This pair is traded through Forex brokers as CFDs, or through cryptocurrency exchanges where cryptos are bought and sold exclusively.

Understanding BTC/USD

The price of BTC/USD in the exchange market represents the value of the US Dollar equivalent to one 1 Bitcoin. It is quoted as 1 BTC per X USD. For example, if the current market price of BTCUSD is 7356.50, then it can be said that one Bitcoin is equal to the US $7356.50.

BTC/USD specifications

Spread

Spread is the difference between the bid and the ask price in the exchange market. It is determined by the brokers and exchanges, and it hence varies from time to time. Typically, the spreads for trading cryptocurrencies are very high. In recent years, the spread of coins having two decimal places is between 1500-6000 pips. The approx. spread on ECN and STP accounts are given below.

  • Spread on ECN: 3000 pips (30 USD)
  • Spread on STP: 3050 pips (30.5 USD)

Fees

The fee is simply the commission paid for the position a trader takes. It is charged only for ECN and Pro accounts and not for STP accounts. For our analysis, we shall keep the fee at 45 pips.

Slippage

Slippage is the difference between the price at which a client executed trade and the price which was actually given by the broker. This difference occurs either because of high market volatility or speed of trade execution.

Trading Range in BTC/USD

The trading range is the representation of the pip movement in the pair for different timeframes. The values are calculated using the average true range indicator. And the procedure to assess it is given below as well.

Procedure to assess Pip Ranges

  1. Add the ATR indicator to your chart
  2. Set the period to 1
  3. Add a 200-period SMA to this indicator
  4. Shrink the chart so you can assess a large time period
  5. Select your desired timeframe
  6. Measure the floor level and set this value as the min
  7. Measure the level of the 200-period SMA and set this as the average
  8. Measure the peak levels and set this as Max.

BTC/USD Cost as a Percent of the Trading Range

Cost is a factor that varies with the change in the volatility of the market. By finding the ratio between the total cost and volatility, the variation in the costs is measured.

ECN Model Account

Spread = 3000 | Slippage = 25 |Trading fee = 45

Total cost = Slippage + Spread + Trading Fee = 25 + 3000 + 45 = 3070

STP Model Account

Spread = 3050 | Slippage = 25 | Trading fee = 0

Total cost = Slippage + Spread + Trading Fee = 25 + 3050 + 0 = 3075

The Ideal way to trade the BTC/USD

It is a general impression that trading cryptos are very risky because of its high volatility. But it is not completely true. To clear the misconception, consider the following example.

The pip value of BTC/USD per lot is 0.01 USD. That is, for every pip up or down, you will gain or lose 0.01 USD. The average pip movement in the 1H timeframe is 9100 pips. So, if you trade one lot of BTC/USD, you will win or lose about $0.01 x 9100 = $91 in a time frame of one hour. Hence, though the pip movement seems to be high, the profit/loss remains within decent boundaries.

Considering the cost variation in the above tables, it can be inferred that the costs are more for low volatile markets and less for a highly volatile market. But, the cost for average volatility acts as a median. Hence, trading when the volatility is around the average values is recommended. Furthermore, costs can be lowered by trading via limit orders instead of market orders. In doing so, the slippage on the trade will be nullified and will not be included in the total cost. In the above example, the total cost would reduce by 25 pips.

That’s about the trading costs involved while trading the BTC/USD pair. We will be discussing more Crypto/Fiat pairs in the upcoming articles. In case of any queries, let us know in the comments below. Cheers!

Bitcoin

Bitcoin has spent the day consolidating. The volume was low and the price action was almost non-existent. The largest cryptocurrency by market cap is showing that it will take a lot of work to get past $7,420, as it endured every attempt of breaking it so far (and there were many). This is a perfect time for traders to use their ranging market strategies.

Bitcoin’s volume is significantly lower than yesterday, while its RSI dropped to 60

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $7,420                                           1: $7,085

2: $7,750                                           2: $6,850

3: $8,000                                            3: $6,640

Ethereum

Ethereum spent the past 24 hours retesting the $168 support level that it went above during the most recent price surge. The support level held up well, and ETH is currently secure above it. As the retesting is still in play, we can’t rule out the option of price falling below the $168 level and retesting $158. However, there probably won’t be any chance of the price going down further due to the lack of volume.

Ethereum’s volume gradually reduced to extremely low levels, while its RSI went back down to 64.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $178.6                                             1: $168

2: $185                                              2: $158

3: $193.6                                            3: $147.5

Ripple

XRP fought to stay between a tight range of $0.2 and $0.205. However, while the $0.2 level did get recognized, it did not pose a big threat to the price. After a while, bulls and bears moved almost freely throughout the 0.2 zone. The price is currently just below $0.2. There are no indications of the direction of the movement yet. Still, with the volume at this low level, the chance of going above $0.205 or below $0.19 is almost non-existent.

XRP’s RSI level dropped from the oversold territory and is currently at 61.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin bulls pushed the price up yet again, establishing the level above $7,000. On top of that, Bitcoin broke many resistance levels. Besides $6,850, which was broken yesterday,Bitcoin went through the 7,085 one as well. However, the $7,420 level stopped its uptick as there was simply no pressure to reach above that one too.

Bitcoin’s volume increased slightly, while its RSI on the 4-hour chart is deep in the overbought, standing at the value of 76.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin bulls pushed to reach new highs all throughout the weekend. The price went far above the resistance line of $6,850 three times, but came back quickly the past 2 times. This is the third time that its price has crossed the resistance. However, all three times, there wasn’t enough buying power to reach above $7,085. If Bitcoin doesn’t hold its gains, bears might get courageous and attack the downside.

Bitcoin’s volume increased compared to the previous week, while its RSI level on the 4-hour chart is 65.

Ethereum

Ethereum followed Bitcoin in its jump up and even outperformed it. The second-largest cryptocurrency passed its $139 resistance level (for the first time, unlike Bitcoin passing through for the third time) and reached the level of $151. However, that level was quickly denied. Ethereum is still fighting to stay above this (now) support line as it enters the overbought territory.

Ethereum’s volume increased during the spike, while its RSI is currently in the overbought territory (at the value of 72).

Ripple

Even though XRP was the cryptocurrency that gained the least out of the top3, it still performed extremely well. XRP spent the weekend consolidating and preparing for a move, which is now happening. The third-largest cryptocurrency by market cap is reaching higher levels but is currently stuck around $0.185.

XRP’s volume increased when compared to the prior week, while its RSI level on the 4-hour chart reaches near the overbought territory, with the current value of 68.

Bitcoin bulls finally mustered enough strength to reach above the immediate resistance of $6,640, which was contested many times over the past couple of days. The push was gradual rather than sudden, and BTC managed to even contest the next resistance level ($6,850) which held up well. However, one candle brought extreme volume and pushed Bitcoin just below $7,300 just briefly.

Daily Crypto Review, Apr 2 – Bitcoin failing to break $6,640; What’s next?

The cryptocurrency market attempted another push towards new highs as Bitcoin bulls tried to get its price above $6,640. Even though most cryptos are in the green, the push was not successful, which may pose a problem in the short term. Bitcoin is currently trading for $6,595, which represents an increase of 4.63% on the day. Meanwhile, Ethereum gained 3.12% on the day, while XRP gained 1.95%.

Digitex Futures took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 26.06%. IOTA lost 4.53% on the day, making it the most prominent daily loser.

Bitcoin’s dominance increased over half a percent over the past 24 hours as it was the one leading the push and gaining the most in value. Its value is now 65.23%, which represents a 0.54% difference to the upside when compared to yesterday.

The cryptocurrency market capitalization increased in the past 24 hours. Its current value is $185.3 billion. This value represents an increase of $5.8 billion when compared to the value it had yesterday.

What happened in the past 24 hours

Statistics on crypto adoption came out recently, showing that online purchases using Bitcoin went down during Q1 of 2020. However, the same goes for Visa and some other apps. However, crypto exchanges saw a major increase in new accounts in 2020, showing that people are responding to the price drop opportunistically.

What seems to be the case here is that people recognize crypto as a way to hedge their portfolios, so they are investing. However, due to the economic crisis knocking at our doors, people that do not have enough funds simply can’t spend it on online purchases, which is reducing the real-world use cases significantly.

XRP’s volume increased each time the cryptocurrency retested the descending trend line. Its RSI is currently sitting at the value of 56.

Bitcoin vs. the Traditional markets

April 1 brings us to the Q2 2020, as well as reports and analyses on how assets performed in Q1. Nikkei 225 was down 20%, which represents the worst quarter since 2008. The FTSE fell 14% for the period, which its second-worst quarterly performance ever. The S&P 500 lost 18% to close out Q1 2020, which is its worst quarterly performance since 1938.

While cryptocurrencies operate 24/7 and don’t exactly have quarters, it is important to look at them as well and compare the crypto market’s performance with the performances of other assets. The crypto market was down just 10% for 2020’s first three months, which is significantly less than the aforementioned traditional markets.

However, despite its relative resilience, bitcoin (and the rest of the market) has been trending downward along with traditional markets, which shows some form of correlation. This correlation across all assets can be explained by the saying that “macro matters more than micro.”

Bitcoin

Bitcoin had a pretty stable day as there was no real volume to push the price up or down. The largest cryptocurrency by market cap still trades within a range, bound by $6,640 to the upside and $5,960 to the downside. As the price could not break the resistance level, we can expect a slow decline towards the support level if nothing changes on a macro level.

Bitcoin’s volume was steady and low in the past 24 hours. Its RSI level is currently at the value of 50.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $6,640                                           1: $5,960

3: $7,085                                            3: $4,300

Ethereum

Ethereum spent the day with virtually no fluctuations. Its chart is mostly consisting of doji candles, hammer and inverted hammer candles, meaning that there is low volume, as well as great price direction indecisiveness. Ethereum gained just slightly over 1% on the day, which was just catching up to Bitcoin’s gains, which happened the day before. Ethereum most likely won’t move without Bitcoin moving first and deciding its direction.

Ethereum’s volume is extremely low, while its RSI value is currently at 53.

Ripple

XRP had a great day, even though its price gains do not show it. The third-largest cryptocurrency managed to get out of the descending range, which it was in for around a week. The price broke the upper trend line and then successfully retested the line, which held well.

XRP’s volume increased greatly during the retest of the trend line, while the rest of the day passed without much volume. Its RSI is currently at 54.

Bitcoin is currently trading for $6,419, which represents an increase of 6.53% on the day. Meanwhile, Ethereum gained 3.21% on the day, while XRP gained 2.4%.

Energi took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 18.77%. There were no big losers on the other side as only two cryptos out of the top100 managed to be in the red. Status lost 1.444% on the day, making it the most prominent daily loser.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin quickly and efficiently recovered from its most recent push down as its price regained previous levels. The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization went over $6,000 yesterday, while it established its position today and even made a push towards new highs (namely the immediate resistance of $6,640). However, the push failed due to a lack of volume. Bitcoin’s future is still uncertain mostly due to external difficulties the world is facing rather than Bitcoin’s internal problems.

Bitcoin’s volume was somewhat higher than yesterday, but still at low levels. Its RSI level on the 4-hour chart is just above the middle of the range.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $6,850                                           1: $5,960

2: $7,085                                           2: $5,000

3: $7,420                                            3: $4,300

Ethereum

Bitcoin’s downturn pushed Ethereum below the $128 support level, but as Bitcoin recovered, so did Ethereum. The second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap regained its previous support level and pushed higher up. The lack of volume prevented it from even reaching the $139 resistance level, forcing the price to consolidate within the range. Ethereum will most likely keep following Bitcoin’s price movements in the short term.

Ethereum’s volume is currently lower than the previous week’s volume, as well as overall. Its RSI level is just below the mid-range, with a value of 49.

3: $185                                                3: $100

Ripple

XRP passed over the $0.165 resistance level over the weekend, which was a great milestone towards establishing a stable price. However, the most recent downturn brought its price below this key level yet again. XRP quickly recovered and regained $0.165 as Bitcoin increased in price and pulled the whole market with it. However, the short-term future does not look good for XRP if it keeps trading within the descending range, making lower lows and lower highs.

XRP’s volume is on the same level as it was the previous week, while its RSI level is slowly descending. At the time of writing, its RSI has a value of 50.5.

Daily Crypto Review, Mar 30 – Bitcoin back above $6,000 as Trump publicly supports printing $6.2 trillion

The cryptocurrency market, as it could not break the immediate resistances ahead, had a leg down over the weekend. The market stabilized with Bitcoin at above $6,000 for now. Bitcoin is currently trading for $6,223, which represents an increase of 1.34% on the day. Meanwhile, Ethereum gained 0.41% on the day, while XRP lost 1.28%.

Energi took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 10.57%. On the other side, Steem lost 8.34% on the day, making it the most prominent daily loser.

Bitcoin’s dominance stayed at virtually the same place when compared to Friday’s value. Its value is now 66.03%, which represents a 0.13% difference to the downside when compared to before the weekend.

The cryptocurrency market capitalization took a big hit in the past 24 hours due to a sharp move down. Its current value is $174.01 billion. This value represents an increase of $13.06 billion when compared to the value it had on Friday.

Bitcoin

After not being able to break the $6,850 resistance for quite some time, a leg down from Bitcoin was to be expected (check our previous reports). The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization fell below $6,000 psychological support (and $5,960 support level), but quickly recovered and stayed above it. Bitcoin is currently trading at just above $6,200.

Bitcoin’s volume is average when compared to the previous week, while its RSI level on the 4-hour chart went from severely oversold to the middle of the range.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $6,850                                           1: $5,960

3: $7,420                                            3: $4,300

Ethereum

Ethereum went through a similar price path as Bitcoin did. Its price fell down below the $128 support level as bulls could not break the $139 reliably, but quickly recovered and went above the support level. It is currently trading at above $130, where it looks pretty safe from any downturns in the short-term.

Ethereum’s volume is on the same low levels as it was the previous week. Its RSI level has risen to the middle of the value range after almost reaching oversold territory during the price drop.

3: $185                                                3: $100

Ripple

XRP received a great surge in volume as its price rose above the $0.165. The weekend brought bad news for XRP as bears took over and brought its price below the key level of $0.165. However, the third-largest cryptocurrency quickly overcome the downtrend and went back up above this key level.

XRP’s volume increased greatly during the spike, while the rest of the volume is average when compared to the past week. Its RSI level is on the upswing, currently passing the value of 55.

The cryptocurrency market is still in consolidation mode, with most cryptocurrency prices at almost the exact same level that they were yesterday. Bitcoin is currently trading for $6,574, which represents an increase of 0.6% on the day. Meanwhile, Ethereum gained 1.01% on the day, while XRP gained a solid 7.28%.

Quant took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 31.45%. On the other side, EDC Blockchain lost 29.88% on the day, making it the most prominent daily loser.

Bitcoin’s dominance decreased by slightly less than 1% over the past 24 hours. Its value is now 66.16%, which represents a 0.88% difference to the downside when compared to yesterday’s value.

The cryptocurrency market capitalization was a bit more turbulent in movements in the past 24 hours than it was the day before. Its current value is $187.07 billion. This value represents an increase of $2.8 billion when compared to the value it had yesterday.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin did not show any major volatility throughout the day, but has made a couple attempts to break its immediate resistance of $6,850. All of the attempts were, however, quickly stopped as the resistance was too much to handle with such low volume. If the pattern of failing to get above resistances continues, we might see a move down and retest of the support level.

Bitcoin’s volume is at the same level as it was the day before, while its RSI level fell down to 56.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $6,850                                           1: $6,640

2: $7,085                                           2: $5,960

3: $7,420                                            3: $5,000

Ethereum

Ethereum has not moved much, but all the moves it made were with deliberation. The second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization tried to break the $139 resistance level, which is only recently showed any significance. It did manage to go above it, but quickly returned below, where it is at at the time of writing.

Ethereum’s volume is just barely higher than yesterday, while its RSI level is currently at the value of 54. We are not listing the $139 resistance as a key level, as it is still considered a pivot point (as well as too insignificant historically).

3: $185                                                3: $100

Ripple

XRP, unlike the other two aforementioned cryptocurrencies, had quite a splendid day. Its price reached double-digit gains as it jumped from $0.16 all the way up to $0.18. However, the bulls could not take the price any higher, and the move ended there. XRP has fallen slightly since then and is currently trading at around $0.171.

XRP’s volume increased greatly during the price spike. While it has descended since, it is still higher than the average volume for the past week. XRP’s RSI level has left the overbought territory on the 4-hour chart and is currently sitting at the value of 62.5.

Bitcoin mining difficulty dropped by 15.95% in the past 24 hours. This is the second-largest decline in its history. Bitcoin price plummeted more than 50% percent last time a decline like this happened.

Though this is not a surefire way to determine the price direction, it is very much possible that Bitcoin will go down some more in the short-term.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin had a pretty stale day price-wise, as it did not move almost at all from yesterday. The largest digital currency by market cap is still trading just below the $6,850 resistance level without much fluctuation. While its price is above the weekly 200-period moving average, if the price doesn’t move to the upsidein the next couple of days, we can expect a leg down towards lower $6,000’s, or even lower.

Bitcoin’s volume drastically reduced from yesterday, while its RSI level dropped slightly towards the middle of the value range, currently being at the value of 56.

Ethereum has almost mirrored the movements of Bitcoin for the past 24 hours. The second-largest cryptocurrency had close to no movement on the day, with its price being right below the $139 resistance line. However, the only change from yesterday is exactly the $139 level. While it was undecided whether the price will end up below or above it yesterday, it is quite clear that Ethereum will trade below this level for the time being.

Ethereum’s volume also dropped severely from yesterday, while its RSI level is currently at the value of 51.

This company released its State of the Network report on Mar 23. Stablecoins gained a lot of the market share, which everyone could see. However, spreads on spot and futures markets widened, while transfer fees went up as people rushed to deposit coins.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin had somewhat a turbulent day, with its price going from all the way to $7,000 and then back down to $6500, only to stabilize at just sligtly higher levels than yesterday. The largest cryptocurrency did not manage to break the $6,850 resistance successfuly, so the bears stepped in and brought the price back down. BTC is now holding below $6,850 and above $6,640. This move might be percieved as a fakeout above $6,850 and the market might look for a leg down towards the low $6,000’s or lower.

Bitcoin’s volume did not increase during the spike, which is quite interesting. Its RSI level is currently at the level of 62.

Ethereum

Ethereum is currently fighting for where it will go next. Its price is stuck right at the $139 level, not knowing whether it will go up or down. However, a break to any side will not be as significant as the moves that Bitcoin makes, and could only bring the price up or down so far.

Ethereum’s volume is still at extremely low levels, while its RSI level is currently just above the mid-point of the value range, sitting at the value of 57.

Ripple

XRP had a day of virtually no movement. However, this is not quite due to its price, not wanting to move. The third-largest cryptocurrency was trading right below the $0.165 level, constantly failing to break it. This exact thing happened in the past 24 hours as well, as the price kept trying to go above the resistance, failing, and then going back to its previous levels.

Bytecoin took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 17.64%. On the other side, Steem lost 1.82% on the day, making it the most prominent daily loser. Bitcoin

Bitcoin managed to pull itself out of the falling price by creating lower lows pattern. The largest cryptocurrency soared above $6,000 once it broke the $5,960 resistance. The price was, however, stopped by the $6,640 resistance. Bitcoin is now consolidating right below this key level, trading at around $6,500 at the time of writing.

Bitcoin’s volume increased slightly during the price surge, while its RSI reached above 60 values on the 4-hour timeframe.

Ethereum

Ethereum followed Bitcoin price-wise and increased in value as well, though not quite as much. The second-largest cryptocurrency has broken its $128 resistance quite quickly and moved towards future resistances. However, a new key resistance level has formed at the $139 level, which stopped the price from increasing twice in the past 24 hours.

Ethereum’s volume increased only during the duration of the candle, which brought its price over $128, while the rest of the day went by with regular volume. Its RSI level increased and is now at a value of 55.5.

Ripple

XRP increased in price as well over the past 24 hours. However, a pattern that is present for a couple of runs (to the upside as well as the downside) is that XRP did not break any support or resistance levels. XRP couldn’t get past the $165 level and is now trading at the $158.5 level, performing consolidation.

XRP’s volume increased only slightly when compared to the past couple of days. Its RSI level increased to the value of 55.

Bitcoin

While most analysts claim that Bitcoin has not gone under the $5,900 level and therefore stabilized above it, they fail to notice that it might be more plausible that Bitcoin is facing resistance at the $5,960 level. If this is the case, then Bitcoin fell under one of its key support levels over the weekend. However, this does not signal that it will keep going further down. That being said, the situation in the world economy alongisde the coronavirus outbreak does not bring good news to any market, cryptocurrency included.

Bitcoin’s volume decreased over the weekend, while its RSI level is currently near the middle of the value range, sitting at the value of 47.

Ethereum

Ethereum, as a cryptocurrency that is highly correlated to Bitcoin and its movement, did not differ much from the largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Ether’s price fell under the $128 support level but found its stability near the $122.5 support. Ethereum is now trading in the middle of the range, bound by these two key levels.

Ethereum’s volume decreased over the weekend, while its RSI level is currently at the value of 44.

3: $178.6

Ripple

XRP fell below its $0.165 support level over the weekend after just briefly going over it. The third-largest cryptocurrency is, again, trading between the levels of $165 to the upside and $0.1 to the downside. The only change in terms of key levels seems to be that XRP now responded to a pre-2017 support level of $0.147.

XRP’s volume is on extremely low levels, while its RSI level is currently at the value of just above 44.

A drug that treats malaria developed over half a century ago is showing great signs of being the cure for COVID-19, especially in combination with an antibiotic. The study showed great results in treating the virus.

Tether (USDT) has seen a great surge of interest in recent weeks as the market has been going down. With people not wanting to get out of crypto, but wanting to protect their investments, Tether has been one of the main destinations for their funds.

Bitcoin

After a pretty stable weekend of trading just above $5,000, Bitcoin’s price experienced some turbulence. At first, it seemed that the bulls have taken the lead and Bitcoin started moving up. However, the move slowed down as Bitcoin aproached $6,000. This newfound resistance got confirmed as Bitcoin’s price bounced back to $5,300, and then began falling even further. The largest cryptocurrency managed to go under the major support level of $5,000, which is a major psychological point. If the price continues going down this way, we can expect a major pinpoint to be the low of $3,100.

Bitcoin’s volume is average, except during the times of the price increases or decreases when it goes up. Its RSI level is currently in the oversold territory on the 4-hour chart.

Ethereum shared a similar faith to Bitcoin. The second-largest cryptocurrency went above the $128 resistance level, but the bullish move quickly got shut down as bears took over. Ethereum then fell under the $128 and $122.5 support levels and is now trading just under $110.

Ethereum’s volume is quite low, while its RSI is in the oversold area on the 4-hour chart.

Daily Crypto Review, Mar 13 – Cryptos staring into the abyss as Bitcoin drops to $3,800

The cryptocurrency market had a meltdown of epic proportions today. Almost every single cryptocurrency dropped over 20% in value. However, almost all the other markets are bleeding heavily as well due to the halt of the economy, which is caused by the Coronavirus outbreak. Bitcoin is currently trading for $5.025, which represents a staggering 34.29% decrease on the day. Meanwhile, Ethereum lost 29.15 % on the day, while XRP lost 24.74%.

Multi-collateral DAI took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 7%. On the other side, Synthetix Network lost 49.74% on the day, making it the most prominent daily loser.

Bitcoin’s dominance decreased greatly over the past 24 hours. Its value is now 59.4%, which represents a 5.95% difference to the downside when compared to yesterday’s value.

The cryptocurrency market capitalization melted down, with a current value of $153.59 billion. This value represents a decrease of a whopping $63.64 billion when compared to the value it had yesterday.

What happened in the past 24 hours

The European Central Bank (ECB) announced that it would provide a $135 billion stimulus to the market. This number certainly dwarfs Bitcoin’s entire market cap. This move is not unique, as similar efforts have been shown from the US Federal Reserve on Mar 10.

In an effort to combat currently struggling markets, The European Central Bank made a decision to not cut interest rates any further, but to rather allocate 120 billion Euros to its asset purchase program.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin’s price had quite a meltdown in the past 24 hours. All technical analysis seems to be out of the game as BTC’s price went down from $7,400 to $3,830 in a matter of hours. The price broke every possible line and anchor it could hang onto and dropped to the lows of $3,830. However, the price quickly moved back up to just over $5,000 which is where it is at the moment.

Bitcoin’s volume increased greatly due to the selloff, while its RSI is deep in the oversold territory on every chart except for the weekly chart.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $6,640                                           1: $5,000

2: $6,850                                           2: $4,300

3: $7,060                                            3: $3,100

Ethereum

Ethereum took a big hit as well, alongside other altcoins. In a price drop led by Bitcoin, Ethereum lost over 20% of its value in the past 24 hours. Its price fell to a staggering $90 all the way up from above $185 levels. The price has stabilized since and is trading at around $125. Unlike Bitcoin, though, Ethereum found resistance closeby, which is at the $122.5 level.

Ethereum’s volume increased due to the selloff, while its RSI level is oversold on every single chart except for the weekly chart.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $128                                                1: $122.5

2: $168                                              2: $100

3: $178.6                                            3: $80

Ripple

XRP was no different than other altcoins in terms of price development over the past 24 hours. Its price dumped as well, dropping to lows of $0.1. The price has recovered since and is now trading and consolidating near $0.14. However, XRP might be in the worst position out of the top3 cryptocurrencies as it does not have an anchor point to the downside.

XRP’s volume increased greatly, while its RSI level dropped to deeply oversold levels except for the weekly chart, where it is nearing the oversold area as well.

How Safe Are Bitcoin Casinos?

According to a recent research article, about $4 billion worth of cryptocurrencies were stolen through security breaches in 2019. Mostly, these hacks targeted exchanges that hold a significant amount of cryptos in hot wallets – which are vulnerable to attacks thanks to their online status.  And hackers are continually innovating new ways of leveraging loopholes, and even outdoing the current cybersecurity measures used by most crypto-asset holding services.

In light of this, it would be understandable if you worried about entrusting your Bitcoins to any third party, regardless of the industry.

While there is yet to be a major heist targeted at Bitcoin casinos, it doesn’t mean that your wagers are entirely safe.  In this article, we look into how you can protect your Bitcoin holdings when interacting with any Bitcoin casino as well as how to choose legitimate Bitcoin casinos.

Choosing a Legitimate Bitcoin Casino

Although nothing can guarantee you that you’ll win every bet you place, it helps to choose a trustworthy Bitcoin casino. So, keep the following considerations in mind for your safety while playing in an online Bitcoin casino:

Transparency

Ideally, online casinos run on self-developed software known as a provably fair algorithm to manage games and even act as a dealer in a pool of players. But, you shouldn’t take their word for it.

As such, any online bitcoin casino worth its salt will go the extra mile to win users’ trust by publishing how their software algorithm works. This way, users can vet and verify that each outcome is randomly selected without interference from third-parties.

License and Registration

Similar to any other business, an online casino must be licensed and registered with a governing body that oversees its operations. However, there are a few discrepancies as far as the regulation of bitcoin casinos is concerned. This is because some countries have completely banned the use of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

Nonetheless, a good number of bitcoin casinos have certifications showing that they have passed the strict evaluations of Gaming Laboratories International (GLI). GLI is a game licensing body committed to ensuring a fair online gaming environment. What sets this regulator apart from the rest is that its testing and inspection are carried out independently, based on the stringent standards set by the licensing body itself.

Funding and Withdrawal Terms

Most bitcoin casinos accept cryptocurrency deposits, but withdrawals are made through your bank or online wallets such as PayPal. In such a case, your banking details can be intercepted by an authorized party, if the casino has put in place privacy and security measures.

The industry-standard technology for establishing a secure connection is the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). A Bitcoin casino with this technology in place ensures that you make private and anonymous deposits and withdrawals using your credit card or bank, without an interception. This security protocol also protects the entire site from cybersecurity threats – safeguarding your wagers while also ensuring the site works perfectly.

Also, pay attention to the withdrawal terms. Some casinos impose terms that prompt users to extend their playtime before they can cash out. Extended playtime often lowers your chances of winning. So, be wary of unfair withdrawal conditions.

Your Wallet of Choice

Unbeknownst to many, the type of Bitcoin wallet you use to fund your casino account determines your safety when using the platform.

There are two main types of crypto wallets, hot and cold wallets. The hot wallets are considered to be less safe than their cold counterparts since they are constantly connected to the internet.

Cold wallets are likened to a saving account, in the sense that they can be used to store cryptos for a long time with minimal interference. Every time you want to spend the stored digital assets, you’ll have to verify your identity by clicking on a button on the hardware wallet.

Even though you are provided with a hot wallet upon setting up your bitcoin casino account, it’s best that you deposit only a small amount of Bitcoins in this wallet and keep the rest in a cold wallet.

Responsive Customer Support

It gives you peace of mind knowing that you can rely on competent client service representatives in case of delayed payouts, technical glitches, or any other issues. Moreover, considering the anonymity of Bitcoin casinos, customer support is the only physical link you have with the casino operators.

A casino with responsive customer support shows the commitment of the operators to ensure that the platform works efficiently and that the users’ interests are a priority.

Check Out Reviews

Genuine reviews from previous and current users are the surest way of ascertaining whether a casino is safe or not.

A simple Google search of the casino of your choice is a good place to start. But you might consider going an extra step to contact various users of the platform, especially if they have no problem sharing their experience with the casino. Usually, if a lot of users have a problem with a casino, it’s better to avoid it than risking. Still, if a casino has fewer reviews, you should probably play safe by risking smaller amounts of Bitcoins or avoiding it altogether.

Most importantly, keep an eye on phony bitcoin casinos, as listed on Casino.org, the world’s largest independent online gaming authority. Currently, there are a few blacklisted casinos on the site deemed to be unsafe due to their unsavoury business practices.

Conclusion

Bitcoin has revolutionized the online gambling industry thanks to its underlying blockchain protocol. Transactions are faster and more affordable compared to traditional casinos since there are no third-parties involved in the cash-out process. More so, due to the cryptographic nature of cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin casinos are more secure than those using fiat currencies.

Yet, the same high level of security and privacy offered by Bitcoin casinos can sometimes be detrimental to users’ safety, considering that the transactions are anonymous and irreversible. For this reason, choosing a reputable Bitcoin casino is paramount in safeguarding your wagers from unfair play or game manipulation.

Even when using a trusted casino, it is recommended that you refrain from storing your Bitcoin holdings in the provided wallet for a long time. Ideally, you should withdraw winnings straight away and store them in your private wallet.

Weaknesses of Blockchain

Blockchain, the technology that underlies cryptocurrencies, constitutes distributed ledgers shared across nodes (computers) participating in the network. These ledgers record data in a sequential fashion after cryptographically securing it. Once data is recorded on the blockchain, it can’t be deleted. This, among many other features of blockchain, like transparency and being deregulated, has given blockchain tech a revolutionary reputation.

But some of these features have also proven to be the Achilles heel for blockchain. This article dives into some of the weaknesses of blockchain as it stands today.

i) 51% Attack

Consensus algorithms that help protect blockchains, like the bitcoin blockchain, have proven resilient over the years.

However, there’s the 51% attack threat that’s always hanging over these blockchains like the sword of Damocles. A 51% attack would occur if an entity managed to gain control over 50%+ of the network. This would disrupt the network by allowing such things as double-spending, excluding valid transactions, or altering the correct order of transactions.

ii) Data Modification, Or Lack of It

Once data is recorded on the blockchain, it’s immutable. Immutable means it’s unalterable. While this promotes accountability and reduces chances of fraud, it’s not always favorable for blockchain. Humans are prone to making mistakes, and once inaccurate information is stored on the blockchain, it can never be changed.

iii) No Customer Protection

Blockchain technology operates on the basis of the individual holding power over the asset they are verifying on the blockchain – whether it’s a title deed, a cryptocurrency, etc. Naturally, transactions go sour sometimes. In a scenario where this happens, the only way to overturn the transaction is if both parties agree, which might prove a tall order. This is unlike a centralized system where an arbiter mediates between two conflicting sides.

iv) Slow Settlements

Before any transaction is verified on the blockchain, all nodes must come to a consensus about the validity of the transaction. This is way slower than say, a bank verifying your transaction at the counter. And in the time between when a transaction is lodged and when it’s verified, a malicious actor can enter and execute malicious transactions.

v) Miners Can Be Selfish

On blockchains such as Bitcoin’s, mining is a process that incentivizes network participants to commit computer processing power and then gets rewards in the form of coins or a fraction of transaction keys. However, this has a downside. Miners may not be very concerned about settling the optimal number of transactions. All they care about might be finding the next block as quickly as possible in order to verify it and get rewarded.

There’s also the case of Selfish Mining, a.k.a block withholding attack, in which a miner finds and validates a block but does not broadcast it to the rest of the network. This results in the miner having more ‘proof-of-work’ than other miners in the pool and increasing their odds of unfairly getting more block rewards.

vi) Private Keys

Blockchain uses what are known as private keys to give crypto owners full control over their funds and data. Users need their private keys to access their funds and conduct transactions. This means if you own cryptocurrency, the security of funds is solely on you. In other words, you’re your own bank.  Once a user loses their private key (either by forgetting the seed phrase or misplacing their hardware wallet), their crypto holdings are effectively lost, and there is no recourse.

vii) Inefficiency

Blockchains that, for instance, use proof-of-work consensus mechanisms, are incredibly inefficient. This is because they store the entire history of transactions that ever occurred on the blockchain. This takes up massive storage capacities across devices. To make a transaction, the entire downloading and verification process needs to be completed. This could take several days – spelling crippling inefficiency about the network.

Viii) Storage Issues

As blockchains get more popular, it means more and more users are interacting with the network. This increases the size of the blockchain. We’re talking about hundreds of gigabytes of storage. This puts the network at the risk of losing nodes when people find the ledger too huge to download and store in their devices. And this puts the health of the blockchain in jeopardy since the health of a blockchain partly depends on how many nodes are supporting the network.

ix) Scalability Issues

To demonstrate the scalability issue of blockchain, let’s look at the most widely applied blockchain – the Bitcoin blockchain. It takes around 10 minutes for a transaction to be verified, translating into an average of 7 transactions per second. Compare this with Visa, which processes an average of 2,000 transactions per second. What this means is blockchains are still a long way off from achieving the level of scalability that they would need to be able to serve millions of customers around the world.

Final Thoughts

The idea here is not to discredit blockchain but point out how the technology could improve. Blockchain is not referred to as revolutionary for no reason. Developers are coming up with new solutions for blockchain’s weak spots every other day. Some of these are the Lightning Network, a technology that promises to improve Bitcoin’s scalability by offloading some transaction data off the blockchain so as to facilitate faster transactions. Industries of all types are also exploring technology so as to achieve more efficiency in processes. Despite its weaknesses, blockchain remains a technology to reckon with.

What happened in the past 24 hours

The VIX volatility index, one of the stock market’s main risk indicators, showed a value of 55 on March 9. This is the highest level it was on since 2009. In the meantime, the international oil price went all the way down to $36.20, down 20% from the previous session.

The Dow Jones tanked 6.9% as it was heading for its biggest daily loss ever to be recorded. On the other side, the UK’s FTSE went down 7.7%. Japan’s Nikkei ended up 5.1% below Friday’s close.

Libra

Marc Bhargava, the co-founder of Tagomi, a company that has recently joined the Libra Association, spoke about the current market cryptocurrency downturn. Since Tagomi is well connected with some of the biggest exchanges as well as some of the biggest crypto traders, he may see the market movement from another perspective.

Bhargava believes that cryptocurrency is not a safe haven asset. This goes against the beliefs of other analysts. “BTC as well as crypto are currently a risk-on asset, more alike tech and VC rather than gold.”

Honorable mention

Bitcoin (start of the bear trend)

Bitcoin began its sudden crash (which, in turn, brought all other cryptos down as well) due to another giant selloff coming from the PlusToken pyramid scheme.

According to various online Blockchain data sources, participants in the $2.9 billion pyramid scheme are attempting to sell their BTC holdings again. Ergo, the Twitter account that tracks PlusToken’s activities, showed that 13,000 BTC or roughly $210 million were involved in this sale.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin’s price got destroyed over the weekend. Many analysts said that the sharp move to the downside will end at above $8,000. However, BTC dropped under it and can not get above again. This price drop was, as we mentioned above, caused by a pyramid scheme PlusToken giant attempting to get rid of its Bitcoin holdings.

Bitcoin’s volume increased as the price-drop occurred. Its RSI level is currently deep into the oversold territory.

What happened in the past 24 hours

While multiple countries are testing and theorizing about the validity of a central bank digital currency, the US dollar remains physical and still sits in a place of dominance. However, how long will the dollar be so dominant if it doesn’t get digital? ING economist Carlo Cocuzzo said that “The dollar is the dominant currency today,” on a panel at London Blockchain Week, but added that “90% of forex turnover is in dollars, so the US stands to lose in this game.”

Honorable mention

Steem

The Steem blockchain experienced some problems recently, where the blockchain’s entire governance system had a couple of disturbances. Tron founder Justin Sun, who now owns the Steemit social network which is based on the Steem token, seems to have successfully executed a takeover of Steem tokens by leveraging not only the tokens that were directly controlled but also the tokens held on several major exchanges. If this is true, then the customers of these exchanges most likely had their funds used without their consent.

Bitcoin spent the past 24 hours trading at pretty much the same level. However, the price quickly pulled back and Bitcoin is almost exactly where it’s at 24 hours ago.

Bitcoin’s volume dropped to average levels after yesterday’s spike. It’s RSI level is currently on the line the oversold territory and regular value range.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin spent the past 24 hours spiraling down below $9,000. The largest cryptocurrency dropped in price fast and decisively as the bear pressure was high and many longs liquidated. However, ever since the bounce off of the $8,650 support, Bitcoin seems to have been going up slightly.

Bitcoin’s volume was increased during the price drop, during its normal or slightly lower than that at the time of writing. It’s RSI level is currently in the oversold territory.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $8,825                                           1: $8,650

3: $9,250                                            3: $8,250

Ethereum

Ethereum’s price took a dive, just like Bitcoin’s price did. Its price broke many support levels along the way, but the $217.7 one held up quite strong and managed to bounce ETH’s price back up. Ethereum looks like it’s gaining some value now, as it managed to even pass the next resistance level, which is standing at $225.5.

Ethereum’s volume is elevated, while its RSI level has just recently left the oversold territory.

3: $259.5                                             3: $198

Ripple

When Bitcoin drops in price, it is common that Ethereum falls a bit more in price, while XRP does either better than Bitcoin or worse than almost every other coin in the industry. This time, XRP did better than both Bitcoin and Ethereum price-wise as it did not drop as much over the past 24 hours. The downwards moving trend seems to have stopped at the $0.227 and XRP turned slightly bullish from there as its price started to increase. The move was strong enough to even break the $0.235 resistance, which is where XRP is currently at.

XRP’s volume is elevated, while its RSI level is just above the oversold territory.

What Is An ICO and What Were The Biggest ICOs Ever?

Introduction

We have discussed many things cryptocurrencies in our recent guides, which talk about their evolution, properties, pros & cons, etc. We also learned a lot about Bitcoin and some of the other major altcoins. As of Feb 2020, more than five thousand cryptos are prevailing in the market. Have you ever wondered how these cryptos come into existence? The answer to this question is ICO. To understand what ICO, AKA, Initial Coin Offering

Irrespective of its size, every company needs sufficient funds to bring an idea to a reality. In the case of conventional companies, there is a concept known as IPO, which translates to Initial Public Offering. Here, a company would go public after they establish their brand name in the market. ‘Going public’ essentially means selling a part of their company to raise more funds and expand its business across the markets to gain more profits.

What Is An ICO?

Like how IPO is for traditional companies, ICO is for the companies who are willing to raise funds to build a cryptocurrency. There might be various agendas for crypto companies, which we will be discussing in the later parts of this article. But not every random crypto company can have an ICO and raise funds. Companies must make their whitepaper public that has all the technicalities of the coin they are going to launch. They must also mention the amount of money they are willing to raise through this ICO.  Along with this, the complete business plan and the acceptable Fiat or Cryptos should also be clearly mentioned.

Once they release the duration of the ICO, interested people can go through the whitepaper of that company and understand the problem they are willing to solve. If that is making sense, and all the other technicalities interest them, they can participate in the ICO by purchasing tokens of that company. Most of the companies accept both Bitcoin and Ethereum to purchase their tokens. The ultimate goal here is to bet on a company that has enormous growth potential in the cryptocurrency space. If that happens, the money they have invested here can have exponential growth and yield huge profits in the future.

If the funds that are raised meets the goal set by the company, the ICO can be considered to be successful. The companies can use these funds and bring their whitepaper to an actual cryptocurrency. But, if the funds raised don’t meet the goal, we can say that the ICO is a failed attempt, and the collected funds will be returned to the investors. Returning the collected funds is a seamless process because all of these transactions are executed through Smart Contracts. So the entire process of an ICO is decentralized and is not regulated by any central authority.

Notable ICO Success Stories

In the year 2013, the first-ever ICO took place where Mastercoin raised around 500k worth of Bitcoin. Then, the ICO of Ethereum took place, which changed the face of the crypto world forever. Without this particular ICO, the crypto world wouldn’t have been the way we are seeing it today. This record-breaking ICO took place in 2014, where the company has raised $18 million worth of funds. This ICO’s massive success enabled the amazing Ethereum platform to transform from an idea on a paper to reality.

Once the Ethereum platform was live with the revolutionary smart contract feature, ICO token sales have been extremely simplified. This resulted in the formation of some of the biggest ICOs to date. One such ICO which is conducted on the Ethereum platform is DAO. If you are a crypto enthusiast, you must have heard about this crypto. DAO has raised about $150 million worth of Ether in just four weeks.

Some of the biggest ICOs we have ever witnessed include EOS ($4 Billion), Telegram ($1.7 Billion), Dragon Coin ($320 Million) & Huobi ($320 Million). Most of the biggest ICOs like the ones mentioned above, happened in 2017-18. This is considered as a golden age of ICOs. The number of ICOs has reduced significantly, and there could be many reasons for that. Some of them include the fall of the crypto market, regulations from the US Securities Exchange Commission, frauds and scams occurred, etc.

Bottom Line

That’s about ICOs and some of the biggest ICOs ever to take place. We must be extremely cautious while participating in an ICO. Getting to know the founders well, analyzing the whitepaper, understanding the feasibility of the project, etc. is crucial before making your investments. Market experts believe that the ICOs are almost dead, but there are a few promising ICOs that are going to take place in 2020, and most of them can be found here. In the upcoming articles, let’s understand what IEOs and STOs are and how different are from ICOs. Cheers!

Honorable mention

Bitcoin Gold

Bitcoin Gold’s price is being heavily manipulated by a whale controlling almost half of the circulating supply. Independent trader and analyst, who wants to remain anonymous, conducted this research, and came to the conclusion that one whale holds this much BTG.

He published the findings in a blog post, explaining why he believes that an individual or a single group of people accumulated a huge Bitcoin Gold position.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin was moving slightly up or sideways until one big red candle, which brought its price to the $9,300 levels. The largest cryptocurrency experienced a massive sell-off (possibly from a single source) as the price fell from $10,150 to $9,300 during only one 5-minute candle. Bitcoin is now stable and trading above the $9,580 support level.

Bitcoin’s volume in the past 24 hours was average, with the exception of one big candle which occurred during the sudden price drop.

Key levels to the upside                    Key levels to the downside

1: $9,735                                           1: $9,580

3: $10,015                                          3: $9,120

Ethereum

Ethereum experienced the same fate as Bitcoin. Its price was solid and stable while moving to the upside or sideways until one big red candle brought ETH’s price to $250. Ethereum recovered and managed to stay above the $259.5 support line.

Ethereum’s volume was average, with the exception of the big red candle. Its RSI level is hovering around the middle of the value range.

1: $279                                                1: $259.5

2: $289                                               2: $251.3

3: $302                                                3: $240

Ripple

XRP was no different from the other two of the top3 cryptocurrencies in the past 24 hours. The third-largest cryptocurrency experienced a quick and sudden selloff, which brought its price from $0.31 all the way down to $0.27. The price has not moved much from the bottom, so it is currently hovering just around $0.275.

XRP’s volume declined slightly, while the red candle during the selloff was above the daily average candle, but below average big “spike” candle XRP had recently. It’s RSI level is approaching oversold territory.

What Is Rootstock (RSK): Understanding The Most Popular Bitcoin Blockchain

Bitcoin technology has played a phenomenal role in revolutionizing the global finance industry. Finance industry players, retail companies, and individuals understand this, hence its massive adoption across all industries. But Rootstock (RSK) sidechain developers believe that Bitcoin blockchain could be doing more. And that limitations in scalability, transaction processing, and lack of support for smart contracts the dominant cryptocoin is facing today are its biggest hindrances.

RSK developers also believe that the pioneer blockchain is money-dominated, implying that people concentrate more on Bitcoin Value than the technological revolution it promises the finance sector. And to address these issues, RSK labs sought to create a Bitcoin sidechain – Rootstock, also known as the ‘SMARTER BITCOIN.’ According to the company, the Sidechain will help Bitcoin overcome these limitations and boost its functionality and interoperability.

But what is RSK, and what progress has it made in making these feasible?

What Is RSK?

RSK is a Bitcoin sidechain connected to the BTC blockchain by a two-way peg. It can also be said to be an innovative virtual machine (RVM), tethered to the root of bitcoin blockchain with the aim of introducing the smart contract concept to the pioneer blockchain while effectively boosting its scalability. Plus, its through RSK sidechain that the crypto community will be able to create and run Bitcoin blockchain-backed smart contracts.

How does RSK hope to achieve these?

Ideally, the RSK sidechain seeks to marry the functionalities of the Ethereum blockchain with the security and efficiency of the bitcoin blockchain. To make this possible, the smart contract sidechain is tethered to the main blockchain by a two-way peg. This ensures that the side chain runs parallel to the main blockchain and that there is interchangeability of assets between both parent and side chain. It also has the backing of a semi-trusted third party that oversees the reliability of all transactions between RSK sidechain and Bitcoin blockchain in the execution of these smart contracts.

Hybrid federation to actualize smart contracts:

The semi-trusted-third-party (STTP) comprises of 25 highly accredited crypto community members of proven crypto knowledge and unquestionable integrity. And they serve as an interlink between RSK sidechain and Bitcoin blockchain, where they determine when to lock or release smart contract funds.

Why does the execution of smart contracts need a third party, you might ask? Well, because Bitcoin blockchain does not support the creation of smart contracts on its platform, RSK platform users needed an assurance that the Sidechain was operating in their best interests. And who to better provide such oversight and regularly audit the transactions carried out on the platform than the crème del crème of the crypto industry.

The 25 STTPs effectively form the hybrid federation that, in turn, operates the multi-signature wallet used to authorize the locking and release of funds. Each multi-sig wallet member has one vote, and it takes a simple majority to authorize the execution of a smart contract.

Two-way peg to actualize scalability and transaction speeds

The RSK Labs has been involved in the audit and analysis of both Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains. In RSK sidechain, they have come up with a highly scalable platform that seeks to boost on-chain transaction processing speeds to 2000 in the long-run from the 3 TPS recorded by bitcoin blockchain today. They also intend to increase block confirmation speeds from 10 minutes per block to less than 10 seconds per block. To achieve this, RSK Labs developers utilized the GHOST protocol used on the Ethereum blockchain to speed up transaction processing speeds, and the DÉCOR+ block reward sharing protocol.

Note that RSK is a sidechain and will not be modifying the bitcoin blockchain code. How then does its scalability and transaction speeds impact Bitcoin? Well, the 2-way peg ensures the two blockchains run parallel to each other, and share assets like the blockchain database. This implies that if a transaction is recorded on the sidechain block, it automatically records on the main bitcoin blockchain, effectively eliminating chances of duplication. The tokens are also interchangeable, where 1 BTC = 1 SBTC (the token used on the RSK sidechain network).

RSK key features and components

Virtual machine:

RSK is to bitcoin, what EVM is Ethereum. A virtual machine through which bitcoin smart contracts can be executed. RSK, however, goes a notch higher to provide a platform on which the crypto community can create Bitcoin-based decentralized apps. And this effectively earns it the title –SmartBitcoin.

No commercializing tokens:

The fact that RSK is a sidechain that complements the Bitcoin blockchain means that its tokens won’t be commercially available. They will be restricted within the RSK to boost network operations like DApps creation. And to allow for easier interchangeability, 1 SBTC will always hold the same value as 1BTC. Let’s say you had 5 BTC and that you wanted to transact but want to leverage the speed and efficiency of the RSK sidechain. You simply exchange them for an equivalent amount of SBTC, and once done, convert your SBTC balance back to BTC.

Transactions not fully trustless:

The fact that Bitcoin’s blockchain does not support the creation of smart contracts on its native network necessitates the use of the Hybrid Federation interlink. When you exchange your BTC for SBTC or vice versa, your coins are locked in a multi-signature wallet within the 2-way peg. The federation, consisting of 25 highly accredited crypto community members, holds the keys to the multi-sig wallet. And locking and releasing funds held in the wallet only requires the authorization of a simple majority.  It provides a semi-trustless oversight over the funds as opposed to the fully independent, trustless, and automated oversight needed in a smart contract.

Merge-mining security:

Bitcoin miners don’t need special applications or hardware to mine SBTC tokens. The RSK token mining applications are completely compatible with the bitcoin mining infrastructure. And as Bitcoin mining halves and block confirmation become harder, SBTC mining is a well-timed incentive.

The bridge between bitcoin and Ethereum:

RSK also supports the Turing Complete Programming language used by Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Ethereum DAPPs. This makes it possible for Ethereum blockchain users to easily migrate their systems to the RSK network. It is a viable option for Ethereum users, uncertain about the efficiency and reliability of the upcoming shift by Ethreum from proof of work to proof of stake.

What is the future of RSK?

Federation transitions to a drivechain/sidechain model?

Currently, RSK transactions over the 2-way peg are audited by the semi-trustless federation. Moving forward, however, and as the Sidechain gains traction and usage, RSK hopes to shift the custody of the locked coins on the 2-way peg to the merge-miners. A significant move aimed at reducing the need for trust.

RSK Educate:

RSK also looks forward to educating the crypto community on the effectiveness of its innovative Sidechain. To this end, RSK has published all the whitepapers related to this project and even created a blog where they share tips and educate the masses on how to interact with the Sidechain.

Why hasn’t RSK picked?

When RSK made public their intention to create and actualize the implementation of smart contracts, every crypto community member expected a flawless process. In its stead, RSK Labs, the developers of RSK sidechain, decided to include the semi-trustless federation of signees to maintain custody of the coins exchanged between Bitcoin main net and Sidechain.

The inherent risk associated with such an arrangement, especially considering their small and compromisable size of just 25 participants,  have seen the crypto community shy off the platform. Most of these lie in wait of the proposed upgrade to the 2-way link that elbows out the federation in favor of BTC and SBTC merge miners.

Bottom line

It is about time Bitcoin blockchain took advantage of its massive industry support and incorporated smart contract features. And the Rootstock sidechain is here to give the blockchain its much-needed push towards execution of smart contracts. By adopting RSK, users of the already dominant legacy coin stand to benefit from such features only available with the newer blockchain models as faster transaction processing speeds, a DApps building platform, and the ability to execute bitcoin blockchain-backed smart contracts. Looking at the Bitcoin community, however, one can’t help but notice the pockets of resistance and doubts forming around the effectiveness and reliability of the Sidechain. And these are majorly attributable to its reliance on the federation of signees as custodians of the locked coins. Only time will tell if this will change once RSK migrates to verification by merge-miners.

Bitcoin & Cryptocurrencies During The Coronavirus Outbreak – What We Know & How To Trade!

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies during the coronavirus outbreak

Since the first patient was diagnosed on Dec 8 in Wuhan, the virus has claimed over 800 lives. There were nearly 34,000 confirmed cases.
Given China’s status as a cryptocurrency investment hub, professionals are concerned, to varying degrees, about coronavirus’s potential to disrupt the business as well as the impact on prices.

Optimistic market?

While Chinese cryptocurrency investors are a considerable market force, statistics say that it’s difficult to conclude a one-to-one correlation between the moves and the outbreak in the crypto market.

The whole market capitalization of cryptocurrencies is small when compared to the stock market, which means that many factors could make an impact on the market.
Most crypto investors from Asia seem to be retail investors, and they have (historically) become more active during major holidays such as the Chinese New Year. No one can predict the market prices, but based on past experiences, the prices tended to get more volatile around Chinese holidays. The virus outbreak could potentially lead to more cryptocurrency trading when it comes to retail investors as they would just stay at home and have more time to check the market.

It is also difficult to predict the market prices as digital assets such as Bitcoin have a unique set of return drivers, told Kostya Etus, senior portfolio manager at CLS Investments.
“Bitcoin isn’t viewed as a safe-haven asset like gold or cash and doesn’t have much in common with risk-on assets such as stocks either,” told Etus. “While most assets are specific to both risk-on and risk-off environments, in which you could predict the price reactions to certain events, Bitcoin is not one of such assets.”

Fluid situation

As crypto is highly speculative, the coronavirus could possibly have a significant impact on the global market, said Samuel Lee, a financial advisor at SVRN Asset Management.
“The crypto market could overreact to the outbreak since it tends to be quite irrational compared to the traditional financial market,” said Lee.
On the other hand, Lee also said that the outbreak is more likely to have a limited effect on the markets.
“We had seen Bitcoin go up at the time when there was a possibility of a war between Iran and the U.S.,” Samuel Lee announced. “However, the coronavirus might not have such a geopolitical influence.”
The World Health Organization was debating on whether to declare this outbreak as an international public health emergency but finally did after many deaths struck the infected.
The S&P 500 turned positive even after the WHO summoned an emergency meeting on how to tackle the coronavirus outbreak. However, the market is dropped slightly in recent days.
“Most previous regional epidemics seem to have had very limited impact on the equity market, except for SARS,” said Wilfred Daye, senior advisor of Bardi Co. However, coronavirus ended up surpassing SARS in deaths.
“When prolonged epidemics become a market-driving factor, the cryptocurrency market will surely react more sharply,” said Daye. Daye also worked as the former head of financial markets at OkCoin.

Conclusion

While there is no sure way to determine whether coronavirus will affect crypto trading, it is almost certain that it will not affect it negatively. The markets will either not be affected by this event, or have an increased volume due to Chinese investors staying at home and having more time to trade.

Daily Crypto Review, Feb 17 – Altcoins take a dive as Bitcoin drops under $10,000; Craig Wright suing BTC and BCH?

The crypto market suffered some losses over the weekend as BTC could not break the $10,500 mark. However, BTC held up nicely compared to altcoins, which took a dive. Bitcoin is currently trading for $9,796, which represents a 1.53% decrease on the day. Meanwhile, Ethereum lost 6.65% on the day, while XRP lost 9.6%.

MaidSafeCoin took the position of today’s most prominent daily gainer, with gains of 9.29%. On the other side, HyperCash lost 20.93% on the day, which made it the most prominent daily loser.

Bitcoin’s dominance increased slightly over the weekend as altcoins dropped more than the largest crypto by market cap. It is now at 63.58%, which represents an increase of 1.5% when compared to the value it had on Friday.

The cryptocurrency market capitalization lost quite a bit of value over the weekend. It is currently valued at $280.57 billion, which represents a decrease of $19.69 billion when compared to the value it had on Friday.

What happened in the past 24 hours

Craig Wright, the person claiming to be the creator of Bitcoin better known as Satoshi Nakamoto, sent out a warning to BTC and BCH to stop using the Bitcoin database as they will face lawsuits if they continue to use it. He claims that both these networks might be violating the laws under the terms of Bitcoin’s original EULA as well as MIT License.

Wright, which is also the person behind Bitcoin SV, added that he will take control of his creation in his personal blog.
