The Features and Uses of Cryptocurrencies

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have heard or seen the buzzword “cryptocurrency” or at least “bitcoin” in financial headlines or somewhere else. The point is, cryptocurrency has captured people’s imagination with its intriguing technology and its potential to become a powerful global currency in the future.

Most people know about the existence of cryptocurrency, but its use remains elusive.  If you’ve been racking your brain with questions like: what’s the use of cryptocurrency? What characteristics define it? Why should I pay attention? We have the answers for you.

Properties of Cryptocurrencies

In the digital currency space, cryptocurrencies have some inherent features that starkly differentiate them. Here’s what makes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Zcash, NEM, Stellar, and other cryptos special.

1. Free of permission

At the core of cryptocurrencies are open source software and consensus-driven technology. Anyone and everyone can access the software needed to mine, trade in, and to complete transactions using cryptocurrencies. Since it is not regulated by anyone, you do not need permission from any authority to use it.

2. Immutable

In its simplest sense, immutable means “cannot be changed.” Once a transaction is done, it’s done. This means that it’s impossible for anyone in the entire world to move a cryptocurrency asset apart from the owner of the private key. Also, a transaction cannot be reversed once it’s on public record on the blockchain ledger.

3. Highly secure

Not only are cryptocurrencies encrypted with extremely complex algorithmic patterns, but they also have an extra layer of security in the form of blockchain technology. Blockchain’s decentralized and transparent nature is such that even if malicious parties manage to hack the system, there’s nothing of value to steal.

Also, most cryptocurrencies have servers all over the world with thousands of nodes tracking all activity in the networks. This ensures that even if some servers and nodes fall prey to hackers, the rest of the nodes will continue running the system.

4. Deflationary

Most cryptocurrencies have a capped market supply, rendering them scarce. For example, Bitcoin has a maximum issue of 21 million coins – and that is the total number that will exist, ever. This makes the currency a prized and attractive asset. As its demand increases, its supply remains the same. This increases its value over time, making it deflationary. Cryptocurrency owners never have to worry about their asset value decreasing.

5. Anonymous and Pseudo-anonymous

Since there’s no governing authority on cryptocurrency networks, users do not have to provide proof of identity while transacting on the networks. It’s anonymous in this sense. However, it’s pseudo-anonymous in the sense that when a transaction request is submitted, the decentralized system will verify it and record it on the public ledger. Any person who transacts is linked to a public address, though no one will know the actual name of the address.

6. Trustless

The decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies is such that nobody has to trust anyone for transactions to occur. Users utilize a technique known as consensus to interact with each other without needing validation from anyone but the system. When a transaction is entered in the network, all nodes will receive it and verify if the digital signature is genuine or not. If it’s genuine, the nodes will record it on the blockchain. If it’s not, the nodes will flag the transaction and discard it.

Uses of Cryptocurrencies

Now that we’ve explored what makes cryptos unique, the curious part is whether they’re worth the hype.

It turns out cryptocurrencies are very useful in the real world. At least in the areas below:

✅Low-Cost and Fast Money Transfer

Many cryptocurrency enthusiasts and users will acknowledge one of the finer purposes of cryptocurrency is their ability to send and receive money at incredibly fast speeds and impressively low costs. The speed of transactions is a very critical part of any financial system, and cryptocurrency excels at this.

When compared with the traditional payment systems which take several days, even the slowest cryptocurrency is lightning fast – with transactions of minutes, and others mere seconds. What makes this possible is: all that’s needed is for a miner to decipher an encryption, after which a transaction is confirmed.

✅A Censorship-resistant Alternative to Wealth storage

The freezing of someone’s assets and cash is easier than most people think. This is especially true in jurisdictions with an unfair rule of the law. All it takes is to be accused of financial misconduct or to run afoul of powerful people. In such a scenario, it’s easy to find yourself with no access to cash, even if you are not guilty of any wrongdoing.

With cryptocurrencies, this can never happen. This is because it’s only the holder of the bitcoin currency who has the key to access their bitcoin wallet.

✅Private Transactions

Some cryptocurrencies such as ZCash and Monero are inherently privacy-centric – they enable users to make anonymous transactions on their network. This way, individuals do not have to be interrogated by a bank on where their money came from, why they are sending large amounts of funds and who the recipient of the money is.

This also makes them a welcome alternative to the usual labyrinthine process involved when you’re transferring a lot of money – an aspect that causes people on both ends to be stranded for days.

✅Cashless Remittances

Non-cash remittances are more secure, more convenient, and easier to track. Cryptocurrencies are unparalleled in this regard – especially with their added characteristic of water-tight security courtesy of advanced encryption.

For instance, Nigeria’s blockchain startup allows users to send money from anywhere in the world to a selection of African nations. Diaspora Africans can buy SureRemit’s tokens and use them within the mobile app version to purchase mobile airtime and pay utility bills for their loved ones in Africa.

Conclusion

Cryptocurrency has revolutionized the finance world with unique offerings which, going by current indications, will render it more dominant in our interactions with money. With its unique security system, cheap costs, and swift transaction speeds, it will continue to find more applications in the real world.

Everything You Need to Know About Cryptocurrency and the Rise of Digital Currencies

Cryptocurrency has taken the financial space by a storm. It’s almost impossible to go for a week without hearing of a new cryptocurrency being launched or another one soaring to record highs, sending savvy investors rushing in. For most people, though, the concept remains foggy if not downright complicated. In this article, we break down everything about cryptocurrency, including: is it the same thing as digital currency?

Cryptocurrency is an internet-based medium of exchange. “Crypto” refers to the fact that the currency uses cryptography to secure and verify transactions and regulate the release of new units. One of the most defining features of cryptocurrency is that it relies solely on the internet: it has no issuing or regulating authority, nor is it bound by geographical restrictions.

Cryptocurrency or Digital Currency?

It’s easy to conflate these two terms, especially since financial analysts and the media often use them interchangeably. So what’s the difference after all? The key thing to grasp is that all cryptocurrencies are digital currencies, but not all digital currencies are cryptocurrencies.

Digital currency is the term for any form of money that’s available only in digital form. This money is not tangible like, say, coins. Digital money can be transferred from one person to another, be traded for another currency, and can be used to transact, just like physical money. It can also be sent to and received in any place in the world.

The defining difference between cryptocurrency and digital currency lies in one word: crypto. Cryptocurrencies are a form of digital currency that is based on cryptography – a technique that combines elements of art, science, and mathematics to convert readable text into unintelligible text so that information is secured from unauthorized parties.

If you’re looking to invest in cryptocurrency and are still confused about what it is or you just want to sound smart when you’re talking about digital currencies, then it helps to know exactly the difference between the two.

Differences between Cryptos and digital currencies

☑️Structure: Digital currencies are centralized, meaning their transactions are regulated by a particular entity, like a bank. Cryptocurrencies are decentralized, meaning regulation within the network is done by the community in the network.

☑️Transparency: Digital currency transactions are confidential. Cryptocurrency transactions are transparent and are in public record, i.e., anyone can see the transactions of any user since transactions are recorded on an open chain – the blockchain.

☑️Potential for Manipulation: Digital currencies have a centralized system that can exert authority over transactions – like canceling or freezing them at the request of a legitimate party. Cryptocurrencies are not controlled by any authority, and cannot be manipulated.

☑️Legal Status: Most countries have established a legal framework for digital currencies. For cryptocurrencies, the same cannot be said, at least currently.

Common Cryptocurrency Lingo

You don’t have to be the originator of Bitcoin to understand some of the most common “cryptocurrency speech” around. Here is a definition of some of the most used words to ease you into the world of cryptocurrency.

☑️Blockchain: Every new record in a cryptocurrency network is recorded as a “block.” It’s so-called because it’s resistant to alteration. Blocks are linked together by cryptography – hence “blockchain.”

☑️Mining: This is the process of verifying transactions before they are recorded on the blockchain network. Mining involves solving complex computational puzzles and decrypting codes.

☑️HODL: “Hold On For Dear Life,” meaning holding onto your cryptocurrency coins despite unfavorable market conditions.

☑️Altcoins: This is the name given to all other cryptocurrencies after Bitcoin – the first and most successful cryptocurrency to date.

☑️CAP: This is a shorthand of market capitalization, which means the total number of coins in supply multiplied by the going price.

☑️Peer to Peer: In a peer to peer model, two or more computers interact directly with each other without the intervention or presence of an intermediary.

The Rise and Future of Cryptocurrency

Only years ago, cryptocurrency was an academic concept explored without much success. That was until 2009 when the first cryptocurrency was launched and took the world by storm. Since then, thousands of cryptocurrencies have been launched with varying levels of success. Today, the cryptocurrency model is being explored by institutions: including governments and financial institutions to make processes more efficient and secure

If the success of Bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency, is anything to go by, then the future of cryptocurrencies is bright. Other cryptocurrencies such as Ripple, Ether, Litecoin, and Cardano have commanded a significant share of attention and investment. Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), akin to the shares of a company, continue to generate excitement and interest in the crypto market.

How Can You Buy and Use Cryptocurrency?

The most important thing is to know how you can benefit from cryptocurrency and how to stay safe while doing so. Whenever you purchase a cryptocurrency, you become the owner of a private key to the wallet address of the coin(s).

With this key, you can access and spend your bitcoin to pay for things or transfer to anyone. Where you place your key is crucial because it means the difference between holding your valuable coins and losing them. So, how do you safeguard your coins? Innovative individuals and companies have come up with crypto wallets that, apart from protecting them from theft, enable you to store, send and monitor their balance. Here are the various types of wallets available today.

Desktop wallets: This type of wallet allows you to send and receive cryptocurrency addresses on your computer. An example is Cryptonator, which enables you to store several cryptocurrencies in one account.

Online wallets: These are web services that allow you to store your cryptocurrencies online. You can access them anywhere, anytime.

Mobile wallets: These are apps that allow you to encrypt your cryptocurrencies and pay for services right from your phone.

Paper wallets: These are pieces of paper with QR codes on them, one being the public address at which you receive your cryptocurrency, the other being your private address where you send them.

Hardware wallets: These are USB devices that store bitcoin electronically and keeps your private keys.

Conclusion

By now, you should have a fair understanding of this exciting thing called cryptocurrency. Though a bit daunting at first, it’s an exciting and revolutionary technology with something to discover every day. Remember, like with everything, the more you learn about it, the more you get comfortable and possibly invest in its ever-growing potential.

Daily Crypto Review, Oct 8 – Strong support just below $8,000, Altcoins on the Rise

Bitcoin has recovered from testing the $8,000 line and dropping just slightly below it. The largest market cap cryptocurrency has had a green day, but so did other cryptocurrencies. While Bitcoin gained 3.9%, Ethereum went up by 5,24% and XRP by 7,5%. Out of the top10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, EOS did the best, gaining 8% on the day.

Figure 2- Heat Map of the crypto sector

Bitcoin dominance dropped slightly, now being 66,7% of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization of $222,73 billion.

Figure 2- 24H market capitalization and Traded Volume

What happened?

With no major news today besides PayPal officially pulling out of the Libra project, cryptocurrency markets are left to the pure buyer/seller sentiment and technical factors.

This is a crucial moment for the cryptocurrency market, as the next movement upwards or downwards will most likely decide where the market will go in the near future. Both the bulls and the bears have their case made, and it’s up to pure supply and demand to decide the future of the cryptocurrency valuation.

Technical analysis

Bitcoin

Bitcoin (BTC) has defended a key historical price support of around $7,700, which was a major factor in keeping the bulls in the game. If it weren’t for this move, the hopes of a corrective rally would be slim to none in the short term.

After rejecting the resistance line upwards, Bitcoin is stuck in a spot between its $8,500 suggested resistance and a key support level of around $7,700. However, a glimmer of hope for the bulls came today after Bitcoin managed to jump to $8,300, before consolidating just below it.

Figure 3 – Bitcoin/USD 30-minute candle chart

With the RSI indicator slowly moving away from the overbought territory, Bitcoin is stabilizing at the $8250 price level. The 23,6% Fib retracement line seems to be holding well as a temporary support line. Meanwhile, the volume is slowly reducing to the levels prior to today’s spike upwards.

Ethereum

After everyone thought that the Altcoin season would never come, Ethereum showed that that might not be the case. Even though highly correlated to the movements of Bitcoin, Ethereum managed to gain close to 1,4% more than the largest cryptocurrency today. With far more stable increase in volume, Ethereum paved the way for other cryptocurrencies to move upwards too.

Figure 4 – Ethereum/USD 30-minute candle chart

Ethereum did not seem to lose out on volume as much as Bitcoin did after the upwards spike, which resulted in a positive gain both when compared to the USD and the BTC. The Fib line of 23,6% got tested on four separate 30-minute candles, but the support line managed to hold. Ethereum is now consolidating around the price of $180.

XRP

XRP came out as the highest-gaining cryptocurrency in the top3, increasing in price by around 7,5%. However, it is can still be considered the most unstable of the three, technically speaking. With its volume differences, the highest of the three top cryptocurrencies (an instant large spike followed by unstable volume fluctuations), and the almost-immediate break of the first Fib retracement line, XRP is looking for a consolidation spot below its current price. The Fib retracement of 38,2%, which currently sits at $0.275, acts as its immediate support. However, that support line got tested on numerous occasions in the past 24 hours.

Technical Analysis

Bitcoin

Bitcoin had modest advances during the last 24 hours. That said, the buying interest seems to be limited. Currently, the daily chart shows that the price has been encountering resistance in the 200-day MA (green). We see also that the volume is shrinking as the price advanced.

The 4H chart shows the price still moves in the upper side of the Bollinger band with the MACD in a bullish phase that gives a bit more weight to a short-term continuation to the upside. We see also that the 8,519 level is a fierce resistance level and that 8,200 has been holding the price lately. Therefore, these are the levels to watch. A Credible break of one od them will signal the future price direction.

Ethereum

Ethereum continues moving with a slight upward bias. The Bollinger mean line has been holding the price for some time. Currently, we see the price in the middle of the ascending channel, but what we see suggests the price is moving to retest the $185 resistance. A break below $177 will invalidate this scenario.

Ripple

Ripple still directionless after the large bullish candle. The price moves still in a band between 0.2468 and 0.257.  To be bullish, we need to see the price above the 0.253 level. A break of the 0.246 support will mean a possible visit to the 0.234 level and invalidate the bullish candlestick made on September 30.

Daily Crypto Review, Oct 2 – Pullback Day or Dead Cat Bounce?

Yesterday, cryptocurrencies behaved as expected, retracing some of their Monday’s gains. Early morning losses continued. Bitcoin lost 2.47% over its 24-hour value. Most altcoins joined the movement such as Ethereum (4%), Ripple (-4.04%), Bitcoin Cash(-4.47%), EOS(-4.57%), Bitcoin SV(-6.15%)  and TRON (-5.61%).

The market cap descended to $218.5 billion, while the 24H volume was $26 billion, as seen in the figure below.

The current market dominance is as follows:

  • BTC:67.55%
  • ETH:8.62%
  • XRP:4.85%
  • BCH:1.82%
  • LTC:1.60%
  • EOS:1.24%
  • Others:15%

The Heat map here, shoes that, as usual, the whole sector moves with almost perfect correlation.

What happens

Ethereum-bases dApp FairWin has collapsed after the exposure of a vulnerability in its smart contract. Researches found the platform admins could drain the entire balance in the dApp easily, an $8 million worth of ETH stored in the platform. Researchers found $250,000 was stolen in a previous version. Source: Medium.com.

According to an article by condesk.com, major Libra backers Visa and Mastercard are re-thinking its participation in this digital project. Libra has been the trigger for regulators to start worrying for the irruption of digital assets and Libra has been opposed by European financial authorities saying Libra could destabilize the Euro, while the US Congress has demanded a complete halt on its development.

The Federal Reserve injects the USD worth the entire crypto market cap in days according to this article by beincrypto.com. The last one is said to add $162 billion to the total USD supply. US FED noted that it is a temporary measure.

Technical Analysis

Bitcoin

Bitcoin’s price has been losing ground after making a double top at $8,519. The MACD is dangerously approaching a bearish transition, while the price is currently sitting on the mean line of the Bollinger Band, at 8,200. That was our expectations yesterday. Thus, nothing to worry about unless weakness continues and the price keeps moving to the lower side of the Bollinger bands and challenge the $8,000 again.

Ethereum

Ethereum is moving in an ascending channel, a weak form of trending. Its price made a high at $185, then during the latest 4H candles has been retracing. At the moment of this writing, the price was held by the mid-line of the Bollinger Bands. MACD is also close to a bearish crossing. The figure created by the latest price action suggests the entire channel is a consolidation of the significant drop made on September 24. Short-term, if the price holds, we see a new test of the $185  high, although the price might go visiting the lower side of the channel.

Ripple

Ripple has retraced more than 50% of the large candlestick made on Sept. 30. Now the price is touching the upper border of the band where it had been ranging before that bullish candle. That may be a supply zone of people who wanted to go long that day but were late.  That means a bounce off of this level is likely. If that does not happen, then the bullish candle was just a trap for bulls, and the movement is negated.

Litecoin

Litecoin is starting to show signs of buying interest. The price has been held by the Bollinger mean line and now has headed up. MACD is bullish, also. The movement is still feeble, and $57 acts as a resistance level, so to confirm a bullish scenario we would like to ask for a close above that level.

Daily Crypto Update, Oct 01 – Reversal Day!

Yesterday was a reversal day. Bitcoin went down from $8,054 to touch $7,701 to swiftly reverse its path and close above $8,300. Other cryptocurrencies followed. The heatmap here testifies the 24H advances, with Bitcoin, BCH, BSF, ETH, and XRP  up more than 7% over its previous session. Market capitalization went up to $224.8 billion with a traded volume of $33.4 Billion.

Technical Analysis

Bitcoin

After creating a double bottom, yesterday bitcoin made a reversal day. The price made a kind of harami in the 4H chart and continue moving up to cross the Bollinger line mean and then the +1SD line. By crossing that line and then moving near the +1SD line, we should assume a new upward trend is initiated. MACD also confirms the bullish phase of the bitcoin.

Right now the price has bounced off of the $8,524 level, which touches the 200-day moving average on the daily chart. That means it is a tough resistance level to cross. If crossed, the price will need to fight the 8.800 level with is June’s 02 topping area. Right now BTC may need to consolidate near the Bollinger Mean line before continuing with the trend.

Ethereum

Ethereum has confirmed its bullish leg up by making another higher high and higher low. MACD and Bollinger bands are in agreement, obviously since indicators lag the price action. Currently, the price was rejected by the $185 resistance and is retracing some of the recent advances, as the price is overextended. We estimate that the price will retrace near its $177 support and, then continue its way up.  A breach of the $177 level ( on a closing basis) would imply less buying strength than anticipated.

Ripple

Ripple has made a sharp impulsive candle on strong volume, yesterday, and since then is making corrective candlesticks near the top of that range, the price hold by the 200-period MA. That is fine since this candle created a price overextension that now is being corrected. The MACD and Bollinger Bands confirm XRP has started a bullish trend, so buy the dip is the motto here. The chart shows the current key levels for this asset.

Daily Crypto Update, Sept 30 – Bitcoin under $8,000 drives Crypto Assets Down!

Bitcoin breached the $8,000 early morning today, as the bearish sentiment keep persisting in the crypto sector. That lack of buyers is creating a pronounced bearish trend in the whole sector. This weekend, Bitcoin lost another 5% Bitcoin Cash(-5.55%), Binance Coin(-5.82%), Monero(-5.05%) and DASH(-6.2%) lead the loses.  The Market Capitalisation of the sector went further to $207.9 billion.

The heatmap below shows the price change of coins and tokens during the weekend.

Technical analysis

Bitcoin

Today, bitcoin definitively broke the $8,000 support level and confirmed, also, the breach of the 200-day MA. On the daily chart, we see also the price has also broken the lower trendline of the descending wedge to the downside.

The next level to break is the $7,700 and, next, we could observe if the supply zone below $7,725 is able to hold prices and stop the downward evolution of the price, to, at least, experience a bounce.

Ethereum

Ethereum’s bounce ended, although the price has not broken the $166 support. We see the price moving slightly below the -1 Bollinger line, which means a downward pressure to prices. That, combined with the bitcoin weakness, makes us think ETH will continue descending to test $160 at least. But we can’t be surprised if $152 is reached in the coming days.

Ripple

Ripple seems to keep holding inside the range between 0.234 and 0.2468, besides the persistent BTC weakness. Today the price is losing 1% while bitcoin is -3.55% down. That shows there is some hidden buying power holding its price. The current sideways channel and technical indicators still show the price is in a downtrend, though. That and another BTC downward spike may force this token to break its support. The best course of action is to be in the sidelines while this is resolved.

The price of Ripple is currently trading at $0.5163 and took as support the $ 0.50, the principal and immediate resistance is the Pivot R1 at $ 0.5288. If the price manages to cross this level, we could see the price looking for $0.5444.

LTC/USD

Litecoin price has won 4.3% in the last 24 H after finding a strong resistance in the Pivot R1 at $92.19. As we stated yesterday in our daily report, the price could keep the level of $ 85.0 and crossed the $ 90.0 level were is sitting now. If the buyers can put pressure in the upcoming hours it is possible to see another move to the upside in the pair.

Cardano is extending its gains and today reports a positive 14.69% in the last 24 H, the price is trying to go for the $ 0.20 during the day with no success as the pivot R2 at $ 0.1961 seems to have stopped the impulse; if the price cant cross this resistance level, the fib retracement of 23.6% could be the support to rest.

Market sentiment

4-H chart technicals signal a Bullish sentiment.

Oscillators are in the overbought zone, showing buy signals and pointing down.

R2 0.1961
R1 0.1839
PP 0.1669
S1 0.1544
S2 0.1374
S3 0.1250

Conclusion

This is not the first time the market performs a rise like the one we have seen on Monday and Tuesday, we could not expect a different thing than waiting for a consolidation and then a retracement to retake the trend. Will be different this time? It is too early to say it, in my opinion, 50% retracement could be expected in the short term before another spike.

Blockchain or Cryptocurrency?

Blockchain and Cryptocurrency

Technology advancements have brought us many amazing things. One of them is Blockchain along with Cryptocurrencies. However, there is quite a big debate in this field. It’s regarding the importance of Cryptocurrencies in the world, while no one disputes the importance of Blockchain. One side of the debate says that Cryptocurrencies ARE Blockchain and that the two can’t be separated, while the other hand says that Blockchain is a great invention, while Cryptocurrencies are not here to stay. Before analysing the subject, we have to know what the definitions of both Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies are.

Blockchain vs Crypto

A Blockchain is merely a chain of blocks, while Cryptocurrencies are currencies built on Blockchain that serve a particular purpose they are made for. When Bitcoin was the only Blockchain, no one tried to separate or differentiate the two. However, once more Cryptocurrencies started to emerge, people saw the distinction. But, can one work without the other?

Blockchain vs Crypto

Cryptocurrencies work on the Blockchain, which serves as a distributed ledger. That way, it forms a network. Cryptocurrencies are nothing more than tokens that value the utility that the protocol presents. That way, Blockchain and Cryptocurrency work hand in hand, and should not be thought about as separate entities.

A distorted view of Blockchain

You can hear “Blockchain is revolutionary, but Cryptocurrencies are meh” from many people nowadays. However, that is an extremely distorted way of looking at things. The reason for that is the actual devaluation of Cryptocurrencies as the “driver” of the blockchain “vehicle”. There are tokenless Blockchains, but they are far from perfect. On the other hand, Cryptocurrencies have the potential to reach their true purpose of fully decentralising an operation, valuing it at the same time, and doing it healthily and without any artificial aid.

Cryptocurrency vs Blockchain

Future of Blockchain without crypto

Many companies are trying to approach the Blockchain integration without actually considering Cryptocurrencies. Anything can, of course, happen, but Blockchain without Cryptocurrencies most likely won’t. The symbiosis between the two is too great and too valuable to pass on.

Cryptocurrencies are here to stay, and so is Blockchain. The actual Cryptocurrencies we have today might not survive, but the concept will.

Cryptocurrencies and Manipulation

Cryptocurrency Market Manipulation

Cryptocurrency Market Manipulation

It’s a well-known fact that cryptocurrency market manipulation is caused by many factors. But so is every other market in the world. So why are cryptocurrencies so much more volatile in the times of manipulation?

Why Does Manipulation Affect Cryptos So Much?

Cryptocurrencies, and mainly Bitcoin are extremely susceptible to manipulation. The reason for that is the big growth crypto movement had in the past years. If you think about it more, market cap certainly does not reflect the total money that went into the crypto markets. Another reason would be the youth of the market and the general mentality of an average crypto investor.

Overleveraged Dollar Value

Early investors could buy Bitcoin for as low as $400 not so long ago. And as the value of a cryptocurrency is just as much about what the next person is willing to pay, with more adoption and speculation, the price rose. With the price, market cap rose too. That made every dollar put in become overleveraged and worth a lot more, for both up and down moves. In trading, this means that less actual money is needed to bring a market up or down. People brought markets down, and rose it up for several billion market cap wise, with only several million dollar orders.

Average Investor Mindset

If we look at an average crypto market investor, it does not match the profile of a traditional markets investor. A traditional investor is in his mid-40s or 50s, middle class and calm. On the other hand, an average crypto investor is young, without much knowledge of the markets, financially dependent and very susceptible to fear of missing out and fear of losing. That’s why the reactions of crypto investors are much more linear, both to the up and down side.

This creates a problem as an already overleveraged market cap of cryptocurrencies gets shook by multi-million dollar manipulative order, and that creates unreasonable fear with the investors. And since our average investor is young and does not handle stress well, he buys or sells in excess, which further accentuates the move. This happens in both a downturn and an upswing.

Conclusion

Cryptocurrencies will remain volatile for a couple more years until the profile of an average investor changes. When investors become more mature, the market will follow. This, however, will not happen in a month or two. Market maturity is a process that every tradable asset needs to go through.

XMR Retesting Previous Levels

Monero Live Price

  • Market cap: $1,985,355,918 USD
  • Total supply: /
  • Circulating supply: 16,170,159 XMR
  • Daily volume: $35,912,200 USD

XMR retesting previous levels

Monero has been pretty quiet in the past month or so. Privacy and anonymity were not a priority when it came to cryptocurrencies, as adoption and manipulation prevention was the biggest problem. However, Monero has managed to break the chains, and leave its “comfort zone”. For the past month, it was ranging between the support and resistance lines. But, they were moving downwards, and that was not good for the price of Monero. After two unsuccessful attempts, Monero has broken the resistance line upwards and got some momentum. Of course, a retracement has to come sooner or later, and we are expecting Monero to retest the line yet again, but from the other side. What will happen?

Monero Live Price Chart

Trading XMR/BTC In The Current Market

There are two possible scenarios. The first one is that XMR will bounce off of the line and go up in price, making it clear that the once ranging line that bound it to a price level is left behind. The other one is, of course, to break the line downwards and fall down in price. It will all depend on the Bitcoin price levels and movement. With everything being pegged to Bitcoin, we need to take everything into consideration, including the future movements of Bitcoin.

Cryptocurrencies are pegged to Bitcoin because it’s the entrance and the exit to the crypto world, meaning that everyone has to buy into Bitcoin before diversifying. When Bitcoin goes down, everything does. If Bitcoin goes up, so do other altcoins. When trading Bitcoin, trading should always be in the direction of the major trend. When trading altcoins, one should always trade after getting the confirmation given by the altcoin pattern, but with one thing on top of it. Bitcoin has to match in trend direction in order for the trade to be validated.

Happenings in the Cryptoverse

Happenings in the Cryptoverse

Bitcoin Vs Altcoins: The Cryptocurrency field is in quite of a rough spot when it comes to price at the moment. With altcoins being pegged to the price of Bitcoin, any movement seems to affect cryptocurrencies globally. Why is this happening and what to do?

Why Are Altcoins Dropping In Price More Than Bitcoin?

Bitcoin Vs Altcoins

If, however, Bitcoin is rising in price, they are winding up slower because traders are riding the wave that Bitcoin created. After the spike up happens, altcoins take over and people diversify their portfolios from the previous gains they had.

Bitcoin price manipulation or something else?

Bitcoin price manipulation

Is this price fall an “attack” on Bitcoin and all of the Cryptocurrencies, or something else?

As you know, I am very conservative when it comes to accusing someone of price manipulation. There is always (in a way) a form of price manipulation from the big holders, but it’s usually not to shut down an asset, but rather just to profit from it. Also, the MtGox trustee has been a great source of fear and FUD with people, which further decreased optimism when it comes to Crypto.

So, it is price manipulation?

Only a small part of the price drop (I believe) is price manipulation. Investors were panic selling every step of the way down. Ultimately, the biggest reason for the drop in the value of Cryptocurrencies is nothing else but levelling of expectations and capabilities.

People had great expectations from day 1 of investing, but the truth is that Cryptocurrencies (most of them) were not ready for mass adoption and mass use, especially Bitcoin. This situation made the Crypto field a speculative field rather than an objective one. The price drop that happened levelled the expectation that people had regarding what Blockchain and Crypto could do for the world, rather than just turn a dollar into a few more, or into none.

EOS Could Be Very Attractive Soon

EOS (EOS)

EOS Market Cap: $12.51B

Circulating Supply; 896.15M EOS

Max Supply: 1B EOS

Volume (24h) $1.22B

Technical Analysis

EOS/USD dropped aggressively today after retesting a major dynamic resistance. It has erased the morning gains and it almost reached a static support. However, the crypto remains very attractive despite the last corrective phase. Today, it has dropped as all the major cryptocurrencies have decreased. Right now is very important for the crypto to stay above the 13.5000 psychological level because it will maintain a bullish perspective.

EOS could make a minor consolidation before it will jump higher. The rate needs more directional energy to be able to climb towards the 16.0000 psychological level. The rate dropped aggressively after the false breakout above the 250% line and above the warning line (wl2). EOS/USD has found a bottom on the median line (ML) of the descending pitchfork and on the median line (ml) of the ascending pitchfork.  The price retested the median line (ml) of the ascending pitchfork and has closed much above it signalling that we may have a reversal.

It has found a temporary resistance at the upper median line (uml) of the ascending pitchfork and at the upside 50% Fibonacci line (descending dotted line) of the descending pitchfork. You can see that it has retested the 50% line of the ascending pitchfork, closing much above it and above the 50% retracement level signalling a bullish pressure.

 Conclusion

Personally, I believe that it will become strongly bullish after a valid breakout above the 250% Fibonacci line, above the upside 50% Fibonacci line of the descending pitchfork, above the upper median line (uml) and also above the 38.2% retracement level. The first upside target it will be at the WL2, but it could be attracted by the confluence area former between the UML and the first warning line (wl1).

ETHUSD lchimoku Long Entry Ahead

An entry based on the Ichimoku system could happen if we get to the 660.92 value zone, this would bring the lagging span out of the cloud and put price near a nice and clear breakout of an inner harmonic and a pivot in time.

Qtum Crucial Breakout Eyed

Qtum (QTUM)

Market Cap. $1.92B

Circulating Supply: 88.55M QTUM

Max Supply: 0 QTUM

Volume (24h): $231.36M

QTUM/USD increased and resumed yesterday’s bullish candle. It went up by more than 4.4% today, and the bullish movement should continue. The crypto is trading near an important resistance area, so you should wait for a valid breakout.

qtum price chart

The current increase is natural and it was expected after the breakout above the minor downtrend line. It has shown an oversold when has failed to approach and reach the 10.74387040 swing low. Qtum price increased again after many retests of the upper median line (UML) of the descending pitchfork.

Right now is premature to talk about a more significant increase as long as the rate is trapped below the first warning line (WL1) of the descending pitchfork and below the 21.75638400 static resistance.

Personally, I want to see a valid breakout above the  WL1 followed by a lower median line (lml) retest to be sure that it will increase at least till the 50% Fibonacci line (ascending dotted line).

A further increase will be invalidated by a valid breakdown below the outside sliding parallel line (sl) of the ascending pitchfork. You should be careful because we don’t have a valid breakout above the lower median line (lml).

It has made a false one in the last days, so we need a confirmation that it will stabilize above the lower median line (lml). You should know that only a valid breakout above the 50% Fibonacci line will confirm an increase towards the median line (ml) and towards the 38.2% retracement level.

qtum chart - forex academy

QTUM/USD reached a dynamic resistance represented by the inside sliding parallel line (sl2). It will be very important for the rate to close above this dynamic obstacle because another rejection could send the price towards the outside sliding line (sl1).

QTUM Price Prediction Conclusion:

If you decide to go long from above the 23.00000000 psychological level, then you should place a Stop Loss somewhere below the 18.00000000 level. The crypto market has shown signs of life as the major cryptocurrencies have registered significant gains in the last days, but you should be very careful because this could still be only a temporary rebound.

Conclusion

After the bull run cryptocurrency market experienced, it is looking like the prices are getting really close to the first strong resistance, and that the pull back is on its way.

market cap evaluation

The market cap evaluation has exceeded the level on which it was on March 21 by approximately 20 billion dollars, from which we can conclude that the breakout from the descending wedge is real, making higher highs. However, we have to wait for a confirmation on the charts of the leading cryptocurrencies. Till then we have to conclude that we are still in a downtrend, but it definitely looks like the uptrend is in its beginning.

Consolidation In The Crypto Market

Cryptocurrencies have been stagnant and without many big moves to either side. The reason for that is the uncertainty abbot what happens on the tax day. We see less movement in crypto because, whoever wanted to pull their money out before tax date, did already, and we now see only people that hold.

BTC/USD consolidating

After the recent spike due to positive fundamental news (approval of the Muslim community), Bitcoin has its momentum slowed down. It made an attempt over an 8230 Fibonacci retracement line of resistance, but failed and is now consolidating and going slightly downwards, with decreasing volume. The price range is currently between the 50 EMA and 100 EMA on the 1h time frame.

NEO/USD bouncing off the resistance line

As we have concluded in the last analysis, neo was in a tough spot, and the most likely thing that would happen to it was the bounce off the red resistance line (shown in the graph). That is exactly what happened to it. This is a big deciding point for NEO, as indicators are “fighting” for the range and the direction of the next movement. RSI just left overbought, volume is declining, and there is a major resistance on the upside, but there are also both EMAs as support, they crossed each other, signaling a bull trend. I am more inclined towards the bear side for a bit until all the indicators get in line.

XRP/USD forming a triangle pattern

XRP has recently spiked, after the big announcement that regarded cooperation with Apple. When that happened, XRP spiked up and broke the $0.63 resistance line, which has now become support. It bounced off of it a couple of times, forming a perfect triangle pattern, with the expected breakout from the pattern around the 19th or 20th of April. It will most likely be an upwards move, but it can’t be said with certainty. EMAs and the support line form a “defense” against triangle patter break downwards, but ultimately, people will decide.

Final word

Markets are mostly consolidating since these are uncertain times fundamentally. Everyone is waiting for a catalyst, for a reason to re-enter the market. The next few days will determine the overall short-term trend of the market, so watch out for the swing trades for now. One thing is good, and that is the increasing volume in the general crypto market.
